The Appeal
When farmers started bemoaning the high cost and low reliability of Land Rover ownership in the Eighties, Daihatsu saw an opportunity for the UK market and introduced their Fourtrak to Britain in 1984. Farmers eagerly snapped them up and they became a durable icon on many farms.
In response to complaints about poor ride quality, Daihatsu introduced the Independent model in 1993, which featured coil sprung rear suspension (though still on a live axle so not fully independent). This year also saw the seven-seater model be released – denoted by the hump in the roof section - which featured beefier looking wheelarch extensions and a more powerful 2.8-litre turbo diesel engine that produced 100bhp.
It’s a rare thing to find a Fourtrak that hasn’t been used for farmwork and this one clearly hasn’t led an arduous life. With only 50,884 miles on the clock and an interior that looks like new, it’s a very rare thing. With seven seats and a 3,500kg tow weight, it’s a hugely practical classic, too.

Summary
This modern classic is a rare find in the UK as most models have been worked to death on farms. With a mere 50,884 miles on the clock, low ownership and a near faultless interior it would be hard to find a better example. It has clearly led a pampered life. With a torquey 2.8-litre turbo-diesel and a 3,500kg tow weight, this is a superbly practical 4wd that’s ready for some fresh adventures.
