BACKGROUND
The P38 Range Rover was the second-generation Range Rover built under the watchful eye of Land Rover’s new owners, BMW.
Design followed the original styling cues from the original Classic Range Rover and the P38, launched in 1994, now offered a more modern and even more luxurious Range Rover for the more discerning customer, who were also well-heeled enough to afford the new prices.
The 4.6 HSE featured a smooth V8 engine and was packed with all the electric comforts and options that were expected in a luxurious and up-market car.
HISTORY
This particular example has only had 3 owners and has spent a large part of its life SORNED and kept in dry storage.
In its early years it enjoyed regular maintenance and servicing at main Land Rover Dealerships and thereafter by its enthusiast owners. It received a few early enhancements from the well-known Range Rover Bespoke specialists Overfinch, with a stainless-steel sports exhaust with 4 tail pipes and Bilstein uprated suspension.
In recent years, in the care of its current owner, it has spent all its time in the warmer climate of Spain where again it has been kept out of the searing sun, being always garaged and used very infrequently.
Recently driven back from Spain with no issues at all the car has been fully serviced with new plugs and fluids and is now being offered up for auction.
PAPERWORK
The car comes with three electronic keys, one manual key, and its V5c showing 3 owners and comes with many MOTs and SORN certificates collected through its years, and a current MOT that expires in December 2022. It also includes the service schedule of maintenance records up to 84,000 miles in 2005.
All the original owners manuals and guides are present along with the original purchase invoice and the user’s manual for the aftermarket Alpine unit that has been fitted. The original head unit will also be supplied with the car.
INTERIOR
The spacious and well-equipped interior is finished in Lightstone leather with contrasting piping and looks very clean and in great condition throughout, with some very minimal signs of use and wear over the years.
The seats are electric, heated and the driver’s seat has three memory positions. The HSE comes with cruise control, electric sunroof, adjustable steering column, remote functions on the steering wheel, climate controlled air conditioning and the rare option of a matching wood insert on the drivers instrument clocks.
Everything works as it should and the carpets and overmats are all in great condition and the often sagging headlining has been recently replaced with a brand new professionally fitted headlining.
In the rear there is the original dog guard and a fully rubber load space mat, together with the normally missing rear parcel shelf. The boot well has a full-sized spare wheel and the jack and wheel-brace.
EXTERIOR
The rare colour of Alveston Red Metallic really makes this car stand out from the crowd and its original paint still has a good and deep shine to it.
As you’d expect on a car of this age there are a few imperfections to be found here and there but nothing that would suggest any damage or major repair. There are some small scratches around the door handles and locks, and on the driver’s wing mirror and a couple of those annoying small dings just above the fuel flap and on the rear nearside door. There are stone chips and the odd small scuff at the front of the car and on the bonnet.
The bumpers, lights and all the glass and rubbers all look in very good condition and the wheels are all in great shape and all shod with good Pirelli Scorpions.
MECHANICS
The car has recently been fully serviced with all fluids and filters changed together with new spark plugs and a new battery.
The air suspension is reported to work perfectly and the car sounds and drives superbly with no known issues to report.
APPEAL
The P38 Range Rover is now well regarded as a true classic car and a great example of the all conquering Range Rover that delivers incredible passenger comfort and security whatever the weather or road conditions that it encounters.
To find such a good and well-kept example of the P38 is now somewhat of a rarity and it really is a fantastic and versatile machine on road with incredible off-road abilities should they be required.
