The Appeal
The first generation of MR2 (W10) was launched in 1984 to become Toyota’s and, indeed, Japan’s first rear mid-engined production car. The MR2 moniker was reported to stand for “Mid-ship Run-about 2-seater.” It was a light and compact sports coupe in the traditional mould and, as such, did very well for Toyota across its global markets. The second iteration, as seen here, appeared in 1989 (the W20) and showcased a bigger, more luxurious cabin and bigger, more powerful engines.
Our example is an architype of cars so beloved of classic car connoisseurs and collectors. An entirely original, low mileage and low owner example which has been diligently maintained and clearly cherished. It comes complete with a wealth of provenance providing paperwork and is an incredibly honest and increasingly rare example of the perennially popular MR2.
