The Background

We all know how iconic the Mini is, and especially the Cooper. This was made in the UK until 1971, when the Cooper name was then discontinued.  Sir Alec Issigonis’ friend, Mr John Cooper, the owner of Cooper Car Company, who was a designer and builder of Formula One cars, saw great potential in the Mini for competition use. It was in 1964 that the Mini was given the famous 1275 cc engine, pushing sales even further, and possibly producing one of the most famous Minis ever. Just 6,300 Mark II Cooper S Minis were produced.
To commemorate the 30th anniversary of the Cooper’s victory in four saloon car championship races in 1968, there was a production run of just 100 Mini Cooper Sports LE produced. These came in two colour options of either Brooklands Green or Black, both with a white roof. They also had fitted the sport suspension pack, sport wheel arches, 6x13 sportpack wheels and two spotlights. The inside received full dark green leather trim and green carpets to match.

The History

The seller of this special MIni Cooper Sports LE, has been the owner since December 2019, and prior to that it was owned by the same person for 10 years. Meticulously maintained, the Mini has either been serviced at a main Mini dealer or by a Mini specialist, all of which is backed up in the service book and paperwork. There has been some work done to the Mini recently to bring it up to the condition it is in now, ensuring that it is ready for the new keeper.

The Paperwork

The V5 is present and shows 3 previous keepers for the Mini.
A nice history file is present with 10 stamps showing in the service book from either main dealers or independent specialists. There was a full service carried out by the Seller in 2020, and more recently by a Mini specialist.
There is an MOT on the car which is valid until the 19th March 2022. It did have a small section of welding done to pass it through the MOT, along with some other parts such as new shock absorbers and an exhaust front section.

The Interior

Inside, the Mini is in really nice condition, with the dark green leather seats in good order.  There is some slight creasing to the leather, as you would expect for the age of the vehicle, and any light marks could easily be recoloured by a leather specialist, or even a DIY kit.
The dashboard is finished nicely with a walnut fascia which is generally in good order, although there is some slight cracking to the lacquered finish in places. Sitting in the driver's seat, the green and black Cooper steering wheel is in nice condition with no signs of excessive wear to it. Just behind, the cream instruments are reported to all be working as they should.
The switches are standard for the mini of this age and are in good condition, with little or no wear to the lettering on the switches. The gear knob has been replaced at some point in favour of an aluminum ball. For your in-car entertainment, a Sony CD player is fitted which does have a USB port. The carpets are in good order and have got a set of mats to protect them further.

The Exterior

Brooklands Green is the wonderful colour which lays on the bodywork of the Mini, and it looks fantastic with the contrasting white roof, which has also been fitted with a webasto roof for the open top experience.
Starting at the front of the Mini, the chrome bumper is in good condition. There have been two additional spotlights fitted and all four are free from any chips. The front of the wings just below the headlights have started to blister a little. Aligning as it should, the bonnet sits nicely against the wings and grille.
Around to the sides and the first thing you notice is the wider squatter stance, thanks to the Supersport wheel arches. The doors look to align as they should, and the Mini is free from annoying little dings or dents to the sides. White door mirrors to match the roof are standard on this model. The chrome window trim and door handles are in excellent order with no tarnishing, and the windows themselves have no nasty scratches to point out, other than the odd little age related mark you may find.
The rear of the car is like the rest. The boot aligns as it should. There is the chrome filler cap to the left in good order, with no tarnishing to that or the bumper. The light lenses are free from any splits.
A classic style wheel finishes the exterior with the 6x13 Sport pack wheels, which are in good condition. There are some small kerb marks on a couple of the wheels, but nothing a wheel refurbisher wouldn’t be able to rectify. The tyres are Yokohama A539, and have a good amount of tread remaining for the new owner.

The Mechanics

What else could power the Cooper Sports other than the famous 1275 engine. The car is reported to run just as it should. A recent service has seen all the filters replaced, and new HT leads, wiper blades, fuel lines and brake lines, coming in at £963. This has ensured that the Mini Cooper is now ready for its new home.
The gear change is smooth and precise with the car pulling well through all the gears, and there are no noises reported to come from the transmission. The new brake lines ensure the car comes to a stop quickly and in a straight line, with no juddering through the pedal.

The Appeal

Driving the Mini can only be described as FUN! With its Go-kart like characteristics, you can’t fail to enjoy driving the Cooper Sport.
The perfect opportunity for a collector or a Mini enthusiast to own a 30th anniversary model Mini. 1 of 100 made Mini Cooper Sport LE, and finished in the stunning Brooklands Green. Who will be the one to take over this special British classic, could it be you?
