The Background

The Jaguar XJ series is renowned for providing a legendary combination of performance and comfort, with specific attention to classic Jaguar luxury along the way. Designed by Geoff Lawson, the XJ8 follows Jaguar’s ethos to a tee, with this particular model, the X308 being launched back in 1997.

This XJ8 was the final evolution of Jaguar’s iconic XJ40 platform and offered slight modern styling improvements, interior design, and the use of Jaguar’s rugged AJ-V8.

This model of XJ played host to a number of variants, with total production figures tipping just over 126,000 vehicles manufactured. The Sovereign model offers the greatest level of luxury out of the full lineup, boasting greater interior comforts and offering various touring-based optional extras.

In 1998, Jaguar released the long-wheelbase variant of the Sovereign, which is around 4 inches longer and provides greater headroom. Today, this model of Jaguar XJ8 is highly desirable and with just over 11 thousand Sovereign 4.0 LWB vehicles produced, clean low mileage examples such as this one are getting rarer by the day.

The History

Originally supplied by Jaguar Mann Egerton in Norwich, this Jaguar has covered very few miles over the years and has clearly had quite a comfortable life. The car has passed through a small number of owners, continuing to cover low miles each year and being well cared for by all.
As of late, the car has been seldom used and eagerly awaits the next step of its adventure. It’s been rather well preserved, with just a few age-related marks inside and out, and will no doubt do its new owner proud.

The Paperwork

This vehicle comes with an assortment of paperwork and documentation, including the original Jaguar book pack and booklets. The paperwork also includes previous MOT certificates, invoices for work carried out, and the V5C document ready for the new owner.

This car has a valid MOT until June 2022 and will come with 2 keys (1 working remote).

The Interior

The interior of this vehicle is in fantastic condition and is a very pleasant space to find yourself in. Both front seats are clean & tidy, and hardly show any of the typical bolster wear you may expect to find on other examples of this age. The rear seats follow suit and appear to have only been sat in a mere handful of times.
This Sovereign benefits from the addition of Luxury Lambswool over mats, which only amplify the level of comfort and classiness within the cabin. Said mats and all interior carpets are also appear to be in excellent condition. The headliner, which does require re-attaching, is also in fair condition, and certainly won’t hinder your experience as a passenger or driver. All 4 door cards and associated controls are in excellent condition, showing the same signs of care.

All dial faces and controls have been well cared for, with very few signs of wear on key items such as indicators and radio controls. This Sovereign also benefits from wooden dashboard details and a gorgeous gear knob, which is packed full of detail and reflects the quality craftsmanship put into this model.
Overall, the interior of this Sovereign is in fantastic condition with just a few minor signs of wear, which can easily be rectified by the new owner without much trouble.

The Exterior

Rather similar to the interior, the car’s exterior is in brilliant condition, with just a few similar age-related marks to note. As the car has been kept in a dry sheltered environment by its current keeper, it benefits from a rather well-preserved exterior in comparison to other examples. The crisp white paintwork shines brilliantly in the sun and is a colour that certainly suits the car and its nature. The paintwork pairs well with shiny chrome trim and the iconic chrome grille, which is in excellent condition.
All 4 wheels are in great shape and seemingly wear their original finish with pride, with just a few minor signs of bubbling here and there. The wheels are wrapped in a matching set of Firestone tyres, which have plenty of tread for the new owner to enjoy.

The Mechanics

Buyers will be pleased to know that this mighty Jag performs exactly as intended, with no known mechanical or electrical faults. Every electrical component from the electric sunroof to auto wipers is believed to be in full working order.  The iconic 4L V8 fires right up, and gently purrs away awaiting the driver’s command.

Paired with the smooth automatic gearbox, the car pulls well through the gears and certainly provides a truly comfortable driving experience. With around 300bhp and a similar torque figure, there is more than enough power to go around.
Living up to its comfortable design intentions, the car handles bumps in the roads excellently and rides the tarmac like a gentle cloud. With a rather clean MOT history and exceptionally low mileage shown on the odometer, it should come as no surprise that this vehicle requires nothing other than a service to be enjoyed on the roads.

The Appeal

The Jaguar XJ8 is arguably one of the best-looking saloons out there, and low mileage Sovereign examples are getting exceptionally difficult to find as time passes. It’s a car that stands out, and demands respect wherever it goes, for all the right reasons.

A gorgeous British luxury car, with a mighty 4L V8 in truly excellent condition. This is without a doubt, a car that should be considered by any collector or enthusiast.
