The Appeal
In terms of build quality and appointments, the Mercedes-Benz W124 coupes of the Nineties were second to none. And today that excellence still shines through. Then and now, these understated two-doors made for versatile everyday cars and relaxed, long-legged tourers. They are a genuine four-seater when needed, while the filly descending side windows and big sun roof give them a very open car feel when swooping along country A-roads. Servicing isn’t (usually) going to break the bank – or mystify a mechanic – while fuel consumption isn’t going to discourage you from planning a weekend away to Scotland or Cornwall. You can easily convince yourself that this car is a sensible buy.

Summary
This is a well-appointed, good-looking coupe in one of the rage’s best colour combinations. Although, as we have stated, these cars were built to the highest standards, you still want to know that the car has been well looked after – which this one has. When bought by a collector five years ago, it underwent a light recommissioning (front wings and mechanical fettling) and has since lived largely in temperature-controlled ‘bubble’. Re-emerging at the other side – and with a fresh ‘no advisories’ MoT, it is immediately ready for the open road.
