Highlights
- Incredibly low mileage
- Just 1 former keeper
- Long MOT with excellent history
- Excellent condition

The Appeal
The Discovery, or “Disco” as affectionately nicknamed by enthusiasts, has long been one of Land Rover’s highest regarded vehicles. The Discovery was introduced to meet the original intentions for the Range Rover, which at this time had become much closer to a luxury SUV than the practical, utility family vehicle it once was.
Today, tidy, low-mileage examples of these first-generation Discos are few and far between, with a great deal falling to corrosion. This example, however, stands out from the crowd, with only 56k on the clock and a beautifully preserved finish.
As examples like this are seldom seen, this is an opportunity you simply can’t afford to miss.
The History and Paperwork
- 1 former keeper
- Low mileage example
- MOT until August 2023
- Excellent MOT history
- Regularly serviced
- Original handbooks included
- V5C document present
- 2 sets of keys
With just 56,612 miles on the clock and one former keeper noted on the V5C document, this Land Rover Discovery really is a remarkable example. In addition to boasting impressively low mileage and previous owner counts, the vehicle also appears to have been very well cared for over the years. Evidence of such can be found in the MOT history, which shows advisory-free passes for the last 6 years.
Although not a great deal of paperwork is included with the vehicle, further proof of previous maintenance can be found within the included service booklet, which shows a total of 10 stamps. Also included are the rest of the Land Rover booklets & documents, along with previous MOT certificates and invoices for previous parts & labour.
The Interior
- Seating for 7
- Excellent condition
- Beige cloth interior
- Practical & spacious
- 2 sunroofs
When compared to Range Rovers of the era, the Discovery’s interior truly is a breath of fresh air. Land Rover returned to humble intentions, with the sole focus on providing a brilliantly practical interior, without the need for luxury touches at each corner. Instead, this Discovery presents us with a charming, humble, and functional cloth interior, with everything you need.
In keeping with the mileage shown, the interior is also in fantastic condition for its age and shows very few signs of wear. As you would expect, the driver’s seat does of course show the most wear throughout the cabin. That being said, it is seemingly only the top cloth layer that has shifted with use, but the shape underneath remains as practical as ever, with only minimal bolster wear.
Passenger seats present themselves with only a few marks and significantly less wear, particularly the middle row. In true practical Land Rover fashion, the Discovery also boasts two additional seats in the rear, pushing the seated capacity to an impressive seven. The 2 seats in the rear fold out exactly as intended, and show only minor wear and discolouration.

Carpeting throughout the vehicle is in excellent condition, no doubt benefitting from the protection of the rubber mats over top. The headliner follows suit, although the adhesive is beginning to lose its effectiveness in some areas. For those in the know, this is a rather common sight with the Land Rover Discovery, regardless of mileage.
Door cards show off a rather impressive finish, with only the driver’s door card and the rear tailgate showing noticeable defects as pictured. The steering wheel, shift knob, dashboard, and controls also present themselves very well, arguably showing only the slightest signs of use. All controls are believed to be in full working order, with no known electrical faults to note.
The Exterior
- Rioja Red paintwork
- 16” 5-spokes
- Excellent condition
- Standard & unmodified exterior
As if the low mileage and owner count weren't impressive enough, this Rioja Red Discovery shows off a very well-preserved exterior finish, especially when compared to similarly aged examples.
The paintwork really does present itself beautifully for its age, and certainly reflects the low mileage covered. That being said, there are of course minor defects to note, such as the expected front-end chips and pitting/bubbling around the rear window seals, which also show slight deterioration as pictured. There are also a few instances of surface corrosion/bubbling to the arches, which may require attention later down the line.
With the exception of the aforementioned rear side window seals, exterior trim pieces and details are also in great condition, albeit in need of some trim restorer. Lights, glass and badging all present themselves very well, with minor signs of age. The current keeper has also included a set of front wind/rain deflectors in the boot, which prove to be a rather popular addition here in the UK.
Rounding out the vehicle’s stock aesthetic, are the set of 16” 5-spoke alloys, which are in excellent condition, with only a few minor marks. The wheels are wrapped in a matching set of Goodyear Wrangler tyres, with plenty of tread left to enjoy.
The Mechanics
- 2.5 TDI
- Manual 5-speed
- Diff locks
- Drives brilliantly
- Recently serviced
- Long MOT
Although not the most powerful from the Land Rover arsenal, the trusty 2.5 TDI lump is more than capable of providing enough power to enjoy. Combined with diff locks, low-range gears and a manual 5-speed, the Discovery remains a very competent vehicle both on and off the road, even today. As such, it’s the perfect choice for those looking for a versatile runabout, practical workhorse, or even the base for an overlanding project.
Buyers will be pleased to know that the vehicle fires up right away and happily chugs away awaiting your next move. As the included service history and MOT history reflect, the vehicle has been well maintained over the years, and now presents itself without a single known fault.
Summary
The first generation Discovery remains one of the most practical, versatile vehicles found on, or indeed off the road. It’s beautifully simplistic and never fails to impress with its balance of capability, no-frills nature and potential.
This particular example does Land Rover proud, showing only 56k on the clock, along with an excellent finish both inside and out. The vehicle performs brilliantly, and will no doubt continue to show off its practicality for many more years to come.
