1995 Aston Martin DB7 i6

Highlights

  • Chassis 009 - the first one sold to the public
  • Extensive documentation and strong history
  • With current owner since 2004
  • A true piece of Aston Martin history!

The Appeal

The only Aston Martin road car to be built in the firm’s Bloxham, Oxfordshire plant, the Ian Callum-designed DB7 was launched to the world in 1994, and became a roaring success in all its forms, with a total of 7,000 being built between 1994 and 2004, making it the highest-volume car ever produced by Aston Martin at the time.
With a variety of model levels ranging from the ‘entry level’ inline-six to the V12 Vantage and Vantage GT/GTA, the DB7 remains somewhat of a modern and understated classic amongst the Aston Martin fraternity, meaning that cars even in concours condition or (as here) a fantastic provenance are still well within the reach of the enthusiast, rather than being confined to the realms of the ultra-rich, making them a very tantalising prospect indeed…

History/Paperwork

  • V5 registered keepers document, showing 7 former keepers
  • Photographs of the car on the production line in the Bloxham plant, along with a black-and-white photograph of the car with its first owner
  • Extensive documentation supporting the car’s provenance as chassis 009, the first DB7 I6 sold to the public
  • Purchased by the current owner in 2004 from renowned Aston Martin specialists Chiltern Aston
  • Always garaged and cherished in the years since
  • Initially in daily use for some years, with the vendor commuting from Somerset to areas such as Swindon, Oxford and further afield, hence the high milage
  • In recent years, the car has seen limited use, but has been regularly maintained with a strong document trail to ratify this
  • Extensive works in the course of the vendor’s ownership, including replacement of both sills, a front brake system rebuild and replacement of the timing chain sprockets
  • The current MoT is valid until 05 April 2024, with advisories for worn rear suspension bushes (Specifically in the NSR lower hub and both rear trailing arms)

The Interior

  • Presents in good condition overall for the vehicle’s age and mileage
  • The seats are free from any rips, tears or damage
  • Commensurate wear visible to the front seats and outer bolsters
  • The rear seats are in excellent condition
  • Carpets and over-mats worn but presentable
  • The high-traffic areas such as the switches, steering wheel, door cards, glovebox door and shifter display a typical usage patina
  • Up above, the headliner is taut, clean and secure throughout
  • The vendor reports that there are no known electrical faults with the car, and no warning lights on the dash

The Exterior

  • Presents in fair condition overall
  • Fantastic colour - great specification combined with the grey leather interior
  • Upgraded Speedline alloy wheels - one centre cap missing
  • The paintwork shows flat patches on the lower half of the offside door, and on the offside rear quarter
  • Elsewhere, there are the usual small stone chips, scratches and minor blemishes consistent with a car of this age and mileage

The Mechanicals

  • 3.2-litre, supercharged inline-six engine
  • The vendor reports that there are no known mechanical faults or issues with the car (save for the aforementioned MoT advisories) though there is a slight rubbing noise noted when the car is moving away or at low RPMs
  • Under the bonnet, the inline-six engine and its ancillaries would benefit from a thorough detailing, but otherwise show no obvious signs of any issues
  • The car is mechanically standard, save for the fitment of a ‘sports’ exhaust whilst the car was in the care of the previous owner.

Summary

Boasting outstanding provenance as the first DB7 sold to the general public with extensive documentation to ratify its history, this is a one-off example to own chassis 009, making it of great interest to collectors and marque enthusiasts alike.
Not only is its history remarkable, but being a well-loved, used and enjoyed example also means that it is by no means a mothballed museum exhibit, therefore allowing the next custodian to continue to drive and enjoy this piece of Aston Martin history.
