Highlights
• An appealing colour combination creating an eye-catching car
• Presents very well with no obvious areas of corrosion or body damage
The Background
The W124 (the cabriolet version is officially the A124) was the successor to the very successful W123 model so had big shoes to fill. To ensure this happened Mercedes Benz lavished the W124 with technical innovations of the time.
These included a very aerodynamic shape, partially fared underside to reduce noise and aid air-flow, the iconic single, eccentric sweep wiper and an exhaust oxygen sensor for the first time.

The History
The car was originally supplied to Southern Ireland and has been in the same family ownership for around 15 years. The car spent a period of time in the North of England from around 2006 when the car was registered on a UK V5 and the current registration number was allocated. The car returned to Southern Ireland in around 2014.
The family have been lucky to have a garage and service centre in the family and, therefore, the car has been fastidiously maintained. As test advisories have arisen, they have been addressed immediately meaning several underside components have been replaced and the underside of the car professionally undersealed to ensure the longevity of the car
The Paperwork
The car comes with a good range of paperwork including stamped service book, numerous bills and invoices and MOT and vehicle test certificates. There is also the UK V5 in the current owner’s name.
The original dealer book pack is also present in the original wallet including owner’s manual and Mercedes Benz 10/30 audio unit user’s manual.
The Interior
The interior of cream coloured leather, contrasting wood veneer trim and complimentary light coloured wool carpets presents very well indeed. The the interior appears to be in very sound, unmarked condition.
A key benefit of the W124 cabriolet is that it is a true four-seater and the rear cabin is not only capacious but appears equally pristine as the front cabin. The well insulated hood operates smoothly via powered articulation and stows completely under a body-coloured panel maintaining an uncluttered look but also promoting airflow and reducing noise.
The Exterior
The metallic Malachite paintwork appears to present very well. The subtle contrast with the pale grey bumper covers and “Sacco” side panels (Bruno Sacco was the Mercedes Benz design chief during the 1990’s) is particularly fetching.
The car seems to enjoy a deep shine and lustre appropriate to a classic Mercedes Benz. There are a couple of very small marks in evidence as you would expect from a 1994 car. The original alloy wheels are in a good, used condition exhibiting some chipping and a little lacquer deterioration on the wheel centres.
The exterior presentation of this car is a credit to the enthusiasm of the current owners. Only on very close inspection can the odd, inevitable age-related mark be seen. Please see the photographic package for full details.
The Mechanics
The smooth running M111 2,119cc, straight four petrol engine features double overhead camshafts and four valves per cylinder. This well proven engine, rated at 148bhp, provides relaxed and quiet cruising but provides sufficient punch when called upon for overtaking and joining fast A roads and motorways.
The owner reports that the car starts well and idles smoothly. There are no reported oil leaks and oil consumption is well within factory specifications. The car stops well and pulls up in a straight line according to the owner.
The Appeal
This W124 Cabriolet is from the period that exemplifies the engineering prowess that Mercedes Benz’s success has been built on. These cars exude robust longevity but certainly not at the cost of style and panache which they deliver in spades.
This example has, clearly, been lightly used throughout its life and maintained to a very high standard. The car is one of those special vehicles that makes every drive feel like a special occasion thanks to the luxuriously appointed interior, the refined mechanicals and the road presence of this head turning cruiser.
The W124 cabriolet enables the owner to share that special occasion feeling with up to three friends in full comfort being a capacious four-seater with a large boot making ideal for extended road-trips and adventures.
