Highlights
• Good service history
• Regularly serviced
• Current owner for last eight years
• All original
The Appeal
Bought around eight years ago because if its extensive service history and condition by the current owner it has formed part of a large collection of cars, being regularly serviced and MOT tested and covering only around 1,500 miles these past eight years.
With the six-cylinder engine there’s enough power, and being a Mercedes, it glides along beautifully. This is a proper four-seater cabriolet with plenty of legroom in the back seats and nice Mercedes convertibles are always a good bet for an investment. This particular vehicle featured in an article relating to A124 cabriolets in May 2010 edition of Mercedes Enthusiast.
The History and Paperwork
• Excellent service history
• Last major service done 80 miles ago in 2020
• Current MOT expires 13 March 2023
• V5c present
• Original owners’ handbooks and service booklet
• 2 original sets of keys
• Spare wheel and tools
The Interior
• Blue leather upholstery and steering wheel
• Electrically adjustable driver’s seat
• Electric hood
• Cruise control
• Good condition throughout
• Front Armrests and cubby box
The interior is all original and does show the patina of use and age, but overall it’s pretty good and a good clean and some leather treatment on the seats should work wonders.
The rest of the cabin has no rips or tears anywhere, all the wood inserts are good, but the headlining of the hood could do with some tidying up.
It’s a nice honest interior with plenty of life left in it with all the electrics, including the electric hood mechanism, all working correctly, with the exception of the driver’s seat belt extender, which currently is not extending.
At the time of the photoshoot the front windows weren’t working but the fuse has since been replaced and they all now work correctly.
The Exterior
• Brilliant Silver Metallic
• Blue Hood
The Silver paintwork is pretty good overall condition and has a good deep shine to it though there are a few very small areas around the car where there’s some paint beginning to bubble.
There’s quite a few stone-chips at the front of the car, and a tiny hole in the nearside headlight, a few small scratches on the front bumper, the driver’s door mirror seal looks a bit out of place and the original wheels all have some minor kerbing scratches.
The hood, which is rarely raised as the car is mainly garaged, does have a few abrasions where it rubs going up and down and a small area shows some loose stitching, there is some slight fraying and what looks like a repaired small slit in the outer fabric.
The Mechanics
• Excellent service history
• Recently serviced
• Well cared for example
When looking for a nice older Mercedes it’s always good to be reassured by a large file of invoices that accompany the car along with a service book that mostly features Mercedes dealers or specialists.
Regularly used and maintained this last eight years but covering little overall mileage the car is drove very nicely and smoothly during our inspection.
In its past the car has had a new head gasket and work on the wiring loom, two apparent weak spots of this model, so it’s good to know that they have both been addressed.
The engine bay is nice and clean which is always a good indicator of a well-maintained car.
Summary
This is a great every day or special occasions classic car that will surely only prove to be a wise and enjoyable investment.
