The Appeal
Almost immediately from its launch in 1974, Volkswagen’s Golf stood out as a star of the hatchback segment of the market, and virtually inventing the ‘hot hatch’ phenomenon with the introduction of the now legendary GTi. The model’s build quality, chisselled minimalist chic, and agile performance has been in high demand ever since, with the early versions now well established as young timer classics.
Alongside the aforementioned GTi, the cabriolet versions are among the most sought after, and, when you combine the two – as in this bright paprika red example – you have a whole other level of appeal.

Summary
This is a tidy and attractive example of a car that’s virtually become a legend in the industry. It is very usable – especially now that Summer is on the way – and that new hood will give you peace of mind if rain clouds loom on the horizon. It’s great to see the level of car this car has enjoyed throughout its life and it’s nice to have the extra poke of the (eight-valve) GTi engine. This bright paprika red Golf makes an ideal starter classic; it is easy to garage and cheap to insure.
