The Appeal
The 964 generation 911 was a big advance of the model, being considered 85% new over the preceding 930. Visually it moved to more integrated bumpers and a smoother look, but under the skin was the first generation to be offered with all wheel drive and tiptronic options; it was available in Coupe, Targa and Cabriolet body styles.
Built as a one off show car for Porsche itself to demonstrate the craftsmanship of this last of the mostly hand built model and some of the colour and trim options, it is a unique car with its stunning purple paint and matching interior but incredibly all original and with letters of provenance.

This is an absolutely unique car with unrepeatable history. Having been built by Porsche as their own show car it will have spent a season on display before leaving Stuttgart for its first owner, a private buyer in Germany who kept the car 14 years until 2005. The current owner, who’s job had him based in Germany at the time, was looking for a 911 and his wife insisted they have this one thanks to the amazing colour. Remaining in Germany and other parts of Europe until 2015, the car remained garaged and only seeing light use. In line with local regulations it has a second set of alloy wheels fitted with winter tyres, which have never been used as it was never taken out if it was raining, let alone icy, snowing or with salt on the roads.
On arrival in the UK, the 911 needed to have various changes to be driven on the left and made MOT ready, but was also due a time based major chains and seals service which involved taking the engine out. This was trusted to Porsche UK’s service centre in Reading, who quoted three months and a very high fee, or fitted in ‘as and when’ for a lower price, which eventually took two years, but after a number of additional tasks were undertaken the final bill still topped £20,000! Since then the car has been maintained by Porsche Reading - trailered garage to garage - and not taken out in the rain.
The Interior
- Original purple interior
- Purple steering wheel
- Multi coloured centre panels from new
- Electrically adjustable seats
- Amazing condition
- Original ‘90s Philips car phone fascia remains installed, and other parts supplied with the car
- Alpine stereo fitted
The cars 'show car' roots are evident in the cabin, with the fully purple trim. The purple carpets are in excellent condition with very little sign of wear, and there is purple leather upholstering on the steering wheel and centre console, dashboard, door cards, and handbrake and gear lever and gaiters; and its all in wonderful condition with just a very small amount of colour warn from the wheel and gear knob.
The bucket seats are another unique feature, purple outer trim but with multi colour stripped centre panels to show other bespoke options. With the grey and pistachio green, it's possibly the ultimate tribute to the early ‘90s! The seats also have very little wear indeed thanks to the high quality of the materials, but also due to the incredibly low mileage covered by the car. On the dashboard we find a newer Alpine stereo to power the large speakers found in the doors, above a large Philips branded panel which was the key pad for an early integrated car phone.
The rest has been taken out as the analogue network no longer works, but is with the car and cold be reconnected and powered up as a show feature. Below this we find two more interesting controls, one for raising and lowering the rear spoiler, which will automatically go up at around 50mph, and one to select 2 or 4 wheel drive.

The Exterior
- Stunning and unusual purple paint
- One off purple tonneau cover
- Immaculate condition
- New roof and headlining in 2021
- Many light lenses replaced
- Refurbished factory alloys
- New Michelin tyres
With low miles, having always been garaged and even being trailered to and from the garage for service work, this car is in astonishing condition. The panels are flawless, with no dings or damage to be found and the paint work has the deepest gloss and barely a stone chip to be found.
The bumpers and bodykit fit perfectly and as well as changing the left hand drive headlamps for right hand drive units and a UK spec rear fog light installed, Porsche replaced many of the lamp lenses which had started to craze or dull due to age, so all look bright and clear.
While in for its major service, the factory alloys were sent away for refurbishment so now look like new and new Michelin tyres were fitted all round which have deep tread. The hood is in excellent condition, with superb black fabric and a clear rear window, and when lowered comes with what is likely to be a one-off purple tonneau cover.
The Mechanics
- Major time-based engine out service from Porsche
- Subsequent servicing from Porsche UK
- Remote oil sump and pipes replaced 2 months ago
- Oil plug/pipes replaced (age related)
- Drives perfectly
Between 2015 and 2017 Porsche UK’s garage in Reading removed the engine for an age rather than mileage based major service, which replaced timing chains and seals and gaskets to factory specification. They had the car in the workshop for two years, working in between other jobs to keep the cost down, but after 24 months and £20,000 it emerged as a mechanically almost as new 911.
This year at a further cost of £1,500 the remote oil sump and pipes were replaced after some minor weeping was spotted, which perhaps gives and idea of the level of care the owner has been willing to lavish on the car, and looking over the condition of the engine bay and underbody shows the fastidiousness with which it has been maintained.

Summary
This car really is a one-off and amazingly a factory built and specified one-off. This is a car that stands out in every way possible for all the right reasons, not just the eye catching paint work or amazing interior, but the level to which it has been maintained. This is a very special car.
