Known the world over, the Eunos Roadster/ NA Mazda MX5 is one of the most popular and desirable cars ever made.

Over the years, the platform has cemented its reputation for being the perfect car for quite literally any form of driving. They’re exceptionally popular amongst classic car enthusiasts, legendary in the tuner scene, and have been dominating various forms of motorsport for decades.
Whether you’re looking for your next classic, fancy a new daily driver, a toy to tinker with, or even the base for your bonkers track car, the answer is always an MX5.

And as Eunos Roadsters are essentially Japanese market-oriented Mk1 MX5s, you’re blessed with perhaps the most important feature ever; pop-up lights.

The History and Paperwork

  • Registered in the UK in 2002
  • 3 UK owners
  • Garaged when not in use
  • V5C present
  • Previous invoices
  • Haynes manual & books
  • Every MOT certificate
  • Includes a spare bonnet, spare boot, and various sundries
This Eunos Roadster started life in Japan in 1990, and would later see UK roads in 2002 with its first UK owner.

The car was then acquired by the 2nd keeper, who maintained the car meticulously for a total of 10 years, later selling the vehicle to the current keeper in 2013.
Upon purchasing the car, the current keeper took the vehicle to renowned specialist Paul Sheard for a check-over and treated the vehicle to a new steering rack, a service, ball joint boot, and new brakes.

Throughout its time with the current keeper, this roadster has continued to be regularly maintained and has been a truly dependable car. This roadster is now ready to go to a new home, where it will surely be enjoyed once more in the sunshine.

In terms of paperwork, the vehicle comes with an assortment of previous invoices for parts & labour, along with every MOT certificate from when the car was first registered to current.

The car also comes with a spare bonnet and boot, should the new owner wish to have a spare pair with the original matching numbers.

The Interior

  • Excellent condition for the vehicle’s age
  • Mostly original interior
  • 3 spoke Momo steering wheel
  • Wooden shift knob and handbrake cover
  • Kenwood head unit
Although hardly known for being a luxury cruiser, the interior of this roadster is surprisingly comfortable and is certainly a rather pleasant place to be.

Although the interior shows minor signs of age, it has been fantastically preserved for a 32-year-old car.

The driver’s seat perhaps shows the greatest amount of wear, towards the bolster and edge of the seat, but is still sufficient enough to provide a comfortable driving experience. The passenger seat, on the other hand, appears to have hardly been used, and could quite easily fool you of its actual age.
The carpets, door cards, steering wheel, dashboard, and controls are also in great condition for their age, only beginning to show minor signs of age.

Overall, you certainly won’t be disappointed with how this car has retained its interior finish and quality over the last 3 decades.

The Exterior

  • Silver paintwork
  • Refurbished “Daisy” alloy wheels
  • Original hood
  • Well presented wheel arches, with no obvious signs of the usual corrosion
  • Dry stored and protected from the elements
  • Pop up headlights
This adorable little roadster looks fantastic, even after all these years.

It’s perhaps one of the few examples in the UK that doesn’t appear to suffer from the usual signs of rusted-out wheel arches and poor outer sill corrosion.

The silver paintwork presents itself well, with just a few areas that perhaps look slightly tired, such as the rear number plate surround panel, and various minor age-related marks on the front.

These are certainly only minor defects, that could no doubt be rectified for a fair cost, and certainly don’t detract from the overall experience.

Rather amazingly and unlike a great number of other examples on the market, the roof is original and has been very well preserved. With just a few minor signs of age showing on the edges, this 32-year-old roof is still watertight and even offers great visibility through the rear screen.
Having been recently refurbished, all 4 “Daisy” wheels are also in excellent condition and are wrapped in a near new full set of matching tyres with plenty of tread for the new owner to enjoy.

The Mechanics

  • In excellent working order
  • A fantastic car to drive
  • Well maintained over the years by caring owners
  • Manual gearbox
  • 1.6L inline 4 cylinder
  • 10 months MOT
  • New tyres
  • New battery
  • New brakes, steering rack, ball joint boot
  • Always been reliable and dependable
Mazda knew exactly what they were doing when they developed the MX5 platform, and it clearly shows from the moment you take one of these for a drive.

Compared to modern sports cars, the common initial impression in conversation is that a 1.6 engine is nothing worth shouting about. But that’s where most people are well and truly wrong.

The car is rev-happy, will happily urge you to hold the throttle through corners, and uses its fantastic power to weight ratio to provide a thoroughly enjoyable driving experience.

Due to their brilliant handling characteristics, it’s not uncommon for these cars to hang with the big boys on any racetrack or B road.
This particular example does Japan proud, and fires right up with the turn of a key, awaiting its next adventure. With no electrical or mechanical faults to note other than perhaps a slow passenger’s window, this mighty Eunos Roadster is more than ready to explore the open road with a lucky new owner.
In true MX5 fashion, the car has been very dependable over the years, requiring nothing other than regular servicing and the typical maintenance items you would expect with age.

The most recent examples of maintenance include new brakes, a new ball joint boot, and a new steering rack.

Following an MOT advisory in 2015, the car was also treated to rust repair on the sills and is now happily advisory-free.

Summary

The Eunos Roadster is one of the most popular vehicles ever produced, and for good reason.

Even after all this time, the cars remain one of the best value-for-money choices you can make and should be on the bucket list of any enthusiast.

This particular Eunos is a fantastic example that drives phenomenally and requires absolutely nothing to be enjoyed by the new owner.
