THE APPEAL
With a grand total of six World Rally championships behind it, the Lancia Delta Integrale is the most successful rally car of all time.
It's hardly surprising, then, that it's also massively collectible, with WRC fans all over the world clamouring to get their hands on the best examples. In recent years, Integrale prices have gone stratospheric and finding good, original cars is getting harder and harder.
But here is one such example. Owned by a French enthusiast, it has a full, known history and was restored a few years ago to an exceptionally high standard.
THE HISTORY AND PAPERWORK
- Original owner until 2003
- Restored between 2008 and 2020
- Contrôle Technique valid to April 2023
- Over 8,000 Euros of recent invoices
Supplied new in September 1989, when Lancia was at the height of its rallying prowess, this Integrale stayed with its original owner for 14 years before passing onto a second keeper who owned it for five years.
That second owner bought the car as a project but never got round to restoring it, and the car was then bought in 2008 by a retired taxi driver who finally did it justice, having it properly restored over a long period Into the mid 2010s. It was bought by the current owner in 2020 and is now for sale having been carefully cared for and enjoyed for the past two years.

THE INTERIOR
- Original striped velour
- Good dashboard
- Very smart order
- Functional and waterproof sunroof
Italian car interiors of the 1980s weren't renowned for their high-quality build and the
Integrale is no exception. It’s a sea of boxy and brittle plastics, but in many ways that's part of its charm because not only does it add character but it also shows the Delta's road car origins.
Integrale is no exception. It’s a sea of boxy and brittle plastics, but in many ways that's part of its charm because not only does it add character but it also shows the Delta's road car origins.
Another distinctive feature comes in the form of the striped velour sports seats, which whilst comfortable and figure-hugging, are also so definitive of their era in terms of their pattern. The cabin is in great condition with no notable flaws.
THE EXTERIOR
- Recent respray in original red
- No known rust or damage
- Totally original and unmodified
- Wonderful condition
Finished in its original bright red, the Delta was re-sprayed in the mid-2010s as part of the extensive restoration programme carried out with the previous owner. The paint finish is still excellent and the car looks fantastic sitting on its grey OZ rally-inspired alloy wheels. There are no signs of any body damage and no visible corrosion.
THE MECHANICS
- Engine overhauled in 2016
- All belts changed
- Regularly serviced by the same garage
- Recent clutch
Mechanically, the Delta is said to be in very good order having received substantial maintenance over the past few years and a general overhaul with new belts and ancillaries. It comes with invoices totalling over 9000 Euros, most of which covers engine, steering and suspension parts as well as new brakes and differential bearings. No surprise then to have the oil pressure reading at 4 bars at 4000 rpm.
It drives well with incredible performance from the turbocharged engine, while the transmission is also reported to be in good order and benefits from an entire new clutch.
SUMMARY
This is a great opportunity to buy one of the all-time classic icons of rallying - a genuine Delta Integrale finished in one of the best colour schemes and in excellent restored condition.
Great examples like this are getting fewer and further between, making this one a particularly appealing proposition.
