The Appeal
Dating back to 1983, the Fiat Uno is one of the most produced automotive platforms to date and is surrounded by 80s and 90s nostalgia. Originally built as a supermini with respectable fuel economy and practicality, the Uno would take on a new form in 1985 with the introduction of the Fiat Uno Turbo i.e.
The Turbo variant would offer a turbocharged 1.3L engine, paired with a 5-speed manual gearbox. It would also feature new styling tweaks and to this day, still encapsulates everything we love about retro hot hatches. You’re treated to an impressive power to weight ratio and a truly enjoyable experience, as many of us remember fondly.
This particular Uno Turbo is in great condition and drives without fault. It presents a great opportunity to relive the hot hatch days, and add a fantastic pocket rocket to your collection.
The History and Paperwork
• MOT until February 2023
• Just 46,400 miles on the clock
• Recently imported to the UK
This cracking little Fiat Uno Turbo began life in 1989 as a UK car and was exported during the 90s. After being imported back to the UK last year, the car has once again been registered with the DVLA and is ready to hit the British roads.
Throughout the current keeper’s possession, the car has been stored away from the British elements, only venturing out on sunny days. As a result of this, you’ll find the underside looks considerably cleaner than quite a few other examples available today and doesn’t show as many signs of age. The current keeper has also treated the vehicle to a few tasteful modifications and has maintained the vehicle meticulously.
The vehicle comes with a small assortment of paperwork which includes the current MOT certificate, as well as the official V5C document ready for the new owner. The car also comes with a copy of the certificate of origin from Fiat. The original document was used to re-register the vehicle and remains with the DVLA. In addition to the paperwork, the vehicle also comes with an owner’s manual, and the Fiat Uno brochure.
The Interior
• Excellent condition
• Near pristine carpets
• A true throwback to the 80s
The interior of this quirky little Fiat is in great condition for the vehicle’s age. With just a small number of notable defects including a couple of minor seat tears and a crack in the rear left interior trim. You may also notice that the rear left passenger’s seatbelt is a different colour, as black was the only colour available in order to get the vehicle MOT’d. All in all, these are exceptionally minor details for original interior pieces and certainly don’t detract from the overall experience.
The front seats are in excellent condition, with just a minor amount of wear on the driver’s seat and a slight tear. The rear seats unsurprisingly, have definitely seen less usage and look fantastic baring one small area between the seats. All carpets throughout the vehicle are very clean and help bring a tremendous amount of colour to the grey interior.
In true 80s fashion, this Uno Turbo is hardly equipped with a range of fancy comforts and luxury technology inside the cabin, but all necessary dials, controls and gauges are in full working order and look brilliant.
The Exterior
• Eye-catching red paintwork
• Great condition for the vehicle’s age
• The wheels are in fantastic condition
• 80’s Hot hatch styling
This Fiat Uno Turbo really does encapsulate 80’s hot hatch styling perfectly with its boxy lines, black plastic trim and side vinyl decals. This particular Uno is in excellent condition for its age and looks fantastic on its set of alloy wheels. Despite a minor amount of bubbling in the lower areas of the paintwork and some trim wear, this Fiat shows minimal signs of age, as you would otherwise expect on a car of this age.
All 4 wheels are in superb condition and are wrapped in a matching set of tyres with plenty of tread for the new owner to enjoy. If the current wheels aren’t to your tastes, the car also comes with a spare set, with stunning gunmetal centres and polished lips.
The Mechanics
• Drives brilliantly, and performs without fault
• Retro turbo goodness
• Well maintained
• Recent timing belt and service
This retro hatchback fires right up with the turn of the key and drives brilliantly. As the turbo kicks in and the revs climb, you realize that these iconic cars truly are incomparable to modern cars. It’s a fantastically fun experience, and with this car performing as it is, there are no doubt many more years of exciting motoring ahead.
The current keeper would like to highlight that the passenger window is rather slow when in operation, and the boot lock can occasionally be stiff. With these minor details aside, buyers will be pleased to know that the car has recently been treated to a new timing belt and service, and needs nothing to be enjoyed on the roads. This vehicle also benefits from an aftermarket blow-off valve and a tasteful exhaust, which both sound spectacular and genuinely enhance the retro experience.
Overall, this Uno performs brilliantly and will continue to put a smile on the face of those lucky enough to grace the driver’s seat. As mentioned, the car requires nothing to be enjoyed out on the road and is ready to go.
Summary
This MK1 Fiat Uno Turbo is in excellent condition for its age and drives without fault. As the vehicle has so few miles on the clock and requires nothing mechanically, it is sure to put a smile on your face for many years to come. With fewer of these retro hot hatches on the roads as time passes, this presents a fantastic opportunity to add one to your collection and relive the 80s & 90s.
