The Background
Supplied new in 1989, this Bentley Eight was regularly serviced and maintained by Main Dealers and specialist garages until 1995 after which local specialists have looked after it.
It would benefit from some light cosmetic paintwork to restore it to its former elegance and beauty.
The History
Bentley produced these models between 1984 and 1992, offering motorists a slightly more sporting alternative to the Rolls Royce equivalent of that era, reflecting their racing history and successes through the years.
The Bentley Eight distinguished itself from other models in the Bentley line-up by utilising a chromed wire-mesh front grill and it also received firmer suspension to give it a sportier feel and improved handling.
It was more than adequately powered by the Rolls Royce 6.75 litre V8 engine and featured a super smooth 3 speed automatic transmission. The 1989 model was also equipped with the more reliable and economic fuel injection and ABS as standard equipment.
The Paperwork
The V5 shows 10 previous keepers and the car comes with its original leather wallet containing owners handbook and service book fully stamped by main dealers until 1995.
There are also numerous receipts for work done by specialist garage Fearon.
The current MOT expires in March 2022.
The Interior
The stylish and luxurious Tan leather interior with contrasting green piping is in very good condition throughout, a testament to the quality of materials used by Bentley and the care that has obviously been taken with this car over its lifetime.
There are a few light scratches here and there on the dark wood trim inserts and the driver’s footwell carpet has certainly seen better days being pretty much worn through.
Optional extras fitted to this car include cruise control, electric front seats with memory function, air conditioning and it has also had an upgraded Alpine Audio unit fitted.
The Exterior
The original Balmoral Green paintwork, although in overall reasonable condition, is where the car needs the most cosmetic improvement. The paint has become tired and faded in places showing some lacquer damage and small areas of bubbling paint, in particular around the Bentley Wings badge on the boot, on the roof and at the base of the rear window.
Chrome fittings and trim are beginning to show signs of pitting and discoloration but most rubber seals and trim look good for their age.
The Mechanics
The car received an oil change in 2018 and a general service in 2012 at 83,866 miles with its most recent service being carried out in March of this year when it had an oil service and brake fluid renewed.
It has also recently had the air conditioning re-gassed.
There are no known or reported mechanical issues to report except for the external air temperature gauge, which requires a new sensor.
The Appeal
There is a timeless appeal to Bentleys of this era. They were well put together and delivered a real touch of luxurious motoring in a stylish and usable large saloon.
Although this example could do with some remedial paint work to bring it up to top condition, it should provide the new owner with a large saloon capable of carrying 4 passengers and their luggage effortlessly over long distances in complete comfort and luxury.
