The Appeal
The Mercedes R107 is a practically ubiquitous car. They’re far from a rarity, but it’s for excellent reason - beautiful inner trims, attractive lines and excellent reliability come together to make it an enduring vehicle for the ages, one of those practical classics that still make superb daily drivers, too.
This model, the 560SL, is a higher-spec model, introduced to suit American tastes. Rather than toeing the line of the other models, it’s fitted with a 5.6L V8 engine, pumping out a more impressive 227 horsepower. Sure, it’s still not going to win any races, but you’ll feel that extra punch behind the wheel.

Ultimately, this is a nice example of the ultimate R107. The car does need some work - indeed, that driver’s seat is the biggest thing that comes to mind - but with a little bit of investment into it, you’ll soon have a superb, versatile classic that’ll make for a proud addition to any collection, be it as a beginner to the world of classic cars, or a seasoned veteran.
It’s true that the R107s are a very common vehicle, with plenty on the road, but even the staunchest cynic will soon be seduced by the 560SL’s powerful innards and excellent all-round performance.
