The Appeal
Launched in 1985 as the successor to the highly-regarded 308, the 328 featured the classic Ferrari recipe of a mid-mounted V8 engine, slick gated shifter and delightfully 80’s wedge-shaped styling with pop up headlights, of course.
This particular example has been in the care of the current keeper since 2017. Notably, the owner used to run a Ferrari and specialist performance car service and maintenance centre, meaning that he is an absolute expert on the marque; who better to buy a Ferrari from?
Since 2017, the car has been cherished and meticulously maintained, driven occasionally and enjoyed, with the vendor stating that it “drives superbly” and always puts a smile on his face - a strong statement from an ex-Ferrari challenge racer!
History/Paperwork
Supplied new by Colmores of Birmingham, this 328 GTS was specified in the classic Ferrari combination of Rosso Corsa bodywork over a Nero leather interior.
Notably, before passing into the care of the vendor (who is not a registered keeper on the V5 due to the car having been purchased as a trade sale when his business was still running) the previous owner had custodianship of the car from 2002 until 2017 - something that is rarely seen in classic Ferraris of this era outside of concours-level collections.
Having been purchased by the current keeper, the car was given a major service and ‘going-over’ by his workshop, with any faults identified and - where required - dealt with immediately. Evidently, this approach to maintenance has been taken throughout the car’s recent history, with plenty of invoices for remedial work as well as preventative maintenance, with a general feel of the car being maintained regardless of cost. This would also be a great time to point out that this 328 GTS has no less than NINE recorded cambelt changes despite its low mileage!
Alongside the V5 (showing 5 former keepers) and the invoices for recent servicing, there is also a very well-stamped service book (so full, in fact, service stamps have gone onto the next page) along with the full complement of Ferrari manuals and handbooks, old invoices, MoT certificates to verify the indicated mileage, a typed history from the current keeper and other miscellaneous documentation.
The Interior
Inside, its easy to appreciate why these pre-00s Ferraris are so revered by driving enthusiasts, thanks to their no-nonsense, analogous approach to the interior and driving experience. Everything is laid-out where it should be, and there are no superflous screens, toggles or switches to worry about, just pure driving bliss.
The condition of this 328’s cabin is also a joy; lightly patina’d and weathered in the typical places (such as the steering wheel, shifter, outer seat edges, door cards, etc) to attest to its use and enjoyment over the years, but still looking fantastic overall.
The seats are both free from any heavy scuffs, rips, tears or damage, whilst up above the inner lining of the removable targa-top panel is taut and free of staining, whilst the roof panel itself is removed and re-fitted with ease, forming a snug seal and with no reported waterproofing issues from the vendor.
Elsewhere, the switches on the door panels and throughout the cabin show some light wear to the graphics in keeping with the interior’s overall condition, whilst the luggage compartment is clean and tidy, with the tool kit and jack both being present-and-correct.
The vendor reports no known faults with any of the systems, switches or gauges within the cabin.
The Exterior
On the outside, the good news continues with this classic mid-engined Ferrari, as the ever-popular hue of Rosso Corsa remains in outstanding condition overall, though the vendor states that the car “must have had paint” at some point in its lifetime given its condition, but this work has evidently been carried out to a very high standard overall.
That’s not to say it’s perfect; there are a few minor marks (such as stone chips dotted around the vehicle as you’d expect from a performance car such as this, along with minor imperfections around the door handles. There is also a few small scuffs noted on the lower front splitter and on the lower rear exhaust valence/diffuser.
Being very particular - as we like to be - we’d also point out that the rubber gasket around the base of the aerial has deteriorated significantly and would benefit from replacement.
You’ll be pleased to know that the pop-up headlights are in full working order, with no sticking or lagging noted during our photo shoot.
All four wheels of the desirable deep-dish wheels (denoting this as a very late-production pre-ABS model) are in excellent condition with no kerb rash or damage.
The Mechanicals
Mounted midships, the 3.2-litre Tipo F105CB engine that powers this 328 GTS is in apparently rude health, firing into life with ease despite having been sat for over a week, idling happily and showing no signs of any smoking or untoward behaviour.
In the engine bay itself, there are some signs of age that you’d expect to find on any classic car of this age, such as oil staining around the exposed areas of the engine, whilst a general valet wouldn’t go amiss towards transforming the overall appearance of this characterful V8 engine.
The vendor reports no known faults with the engine, transmission or chassis.
The most recent cambelt service was carried out by Mike & Graham Reeder Ferrari Specialist at 44,131 miles, whilst the most recent MoT was carried out on 06 October 2022, and shows a first-time pas with no advisory items at 44,462 miles.

Summary
Wonderfully wedge-shaped as all great 80s supercars should be, with a howling mid-mounted V8 engine, dog-leg gated transmission and finished in the timeless hue of Rosso Corsa, this 328 GTS is ready to jump-in and enjoy this summer, especially with the targa roof panel removed, the wind in your hair and the full aural splendour of that V8 ringing in your ears behind you!
