THE APPEAL
The sensational Sierra was arguably one of Ford's greatest successes in Britain during the 80s, with over a million sold during its 11-year reign.
Its futuristic, sleek design was styled to be streamlined enhancing performance and fuel economy and the interior was built to be comfortable, practical and equipped.
All of this was packaged as an affordable family car and it proved to be the ideal option for many households. The Sierra has since diminished, with very few now left on the UK’s roads and most of those that do remain in pretty poor shape.

Here, however, is a formerly Swiss-registered 1987 MK11 which has stood the test of time thanks to regular maintenance and cherished ownership.
Its condition is remarkable, with no restoration believed to have been carried out, the body appears to have avoided the usual signs of corrosion and contains only a few superficial scars.
Its 3-door chassis also makes it a desirable donor for the high-performance Sierra RS Cosworth.

Inside the Sierra mature styling with an element of science fiction is present.
The usual 80s era of plastic and patterned seats are present and in good shape, with only small areas of wear to the front passenger bolster and rear seats visible.
The dash and centre console layout is the highlight for us, the slightly angled centre combined with the large almost over-exaggerated instrument panel provides a tiny sci-fi feel.
It’s a lovely, comfortable environment in very good condition.

THE EXTERIOR
- Good unmodified example
- Rosso Red Paint
- Alloy wheels + steels with winter tyres included
- No sunroof
- Minor blemished throughout
The car's sleek, aerodynamic styling wasn't just for aesthetics, marketed as a ‘wind cheat’ it provided less drag and therefore better fuel consumption and therefore money saved, exactly what most families looking for affordable transport are considering.
It provides a sporty appeal to match its performance in a subtle, grown-up sort of way with additional styling coming in the shape of a rear boot spoiler, alloy wheels and a low, wide stance.
Condition-wise, there are a few usual stone chips and small blemishes present, the rear bumper area being the most obvious, but considering the mileage is up past 120,000 miles, you can forgive the little wear it has.
In fact, the current state of the bodywork is quite impressive, considering that historically these cars suffer from rust but there’s next to no sign of any of anything dreaded on the metal or paintwork, even underneath the car appears fantastic, no-doubt thanks to its sheltered Swiss life.

THE MECHANICS
- 1993cc Pinto engine
- 5-speed transmission
- Runs & drives without fault
During our visit, the car was driven a few miles to a more suitable location for the photography to take place.
The 2.0L engine started comfortably and powered the car spritely down the country lanes.
We followed the car as it confidently composed itself around the narrow bends and contoured tarmac.
The car comes with a great mechanical record, with several service stamps present from 11,000km all the way to 150,000, add in a recent MOT with no advisories it's quite evident the car has been comprehensively cared for all its life, if you want further proof just look under that bonnet.
It's outstandingly clean and presented in excellent condition.

SUMMARY
The impressive condition inside and out, plus the 3-Door chassis make this Sierra one of the best we’ve seen.
Its life in Switzerland has kept it in remarkably good condition, with original factory stickers still visible.
A little love could take this car to superb condition but equally it's a perfect donor for a Cosworth tribute.
