THE APPEAL
Introduced in 1986 as the successor the famous 308 – the “Magnum Ferrari” – the 328 was much of the same but in a more refined, more technologically advanced and more powerful package.
It was the car that would be the final evolution of the ‘Dino’ V8 engine, now with four valves per cylinder and bored out to 3.2-litres, producing 270bhp – enough for a top speed of 166mph and 0-60 in 5.5 seconds.
But the thing that really sold was its looks – the 328 was little different in appearance from the 308, but that’s because the 308 was a sensational car to look at in the first place.
This one is a 1987 car and is a GTS – the targa-topped ‘Spyder’ model – with a lift-off roof panel and some desirable options, such as a leather parcel shelf and leather-trimmed headliner panel.
Owned by the vendor since 2011, he is reluctantly parting with it as he’s not using as much as he used to, preferring to enjoy his motorcycle collection instead. It’s a terrific example, having covered just 47,000 miles and with a substantial history file.

THE INTERIOR

- Rare leather parcel shelf and headlining
- Fantastic condition
Open the door and it’s immediately clear that this is a tremendously well looked after car - the Magnolia leather and red carpets are in superb condition for a 35-year-old vehicle and show barely any wear at all. Likewise, all of the dials and switchgear are in good condition and operate as they should.
The 328 has two rare options, one being its Magnolia leather parcel shelf and the other being matching leather headlining inside the Targa top. It's all in pleasingly original condition, the only deviation from standard being a more modern CD player head unit.
Both the spare wheel well and the rear boot are in good order and it comes with a full and complete original Ferrari toolkit.
THE EXTERIOR
- Classic Rosso Corsa paint scheme
- Unrestored and original
- Lift-off targa roof
- F40/512 alloy wheels (originals available by negotiation)
You only have to look at the photos to see that this is a truly sensational looking car, finished in traditional Ferrari Rosso Corsa and in pretty much spotless order throughout with no scuffs scrapes or signs of damage.
Although the car’s low ride height maid an underside inspection difficult, the vendor assures us that the chassis is in good order and the car has never had any corrosion advisories on its annual MOT test.
The lift-off Targa top is in great condition and the car sits very nicely on a set of aftermarket alloys, the very same as those fitted to the 512BB and F40. they really suit it, but if you were a stickler for originality then the vendor has retained the original alloys and is happy to supply them by separate negotiation.
THE MECHANICS
- 32-litre 32v quad cam V8
- Five-speed manual
- Refurbished and refinished wishbones and suspension arms
- Stainless steel Tubi sports exhaust
The very last version of Ferrari's classic Dino V8 is regarded as the absolute best of the breed both in terms of performance and also reliability. This one is a well-maintained example that has been cared for in later life by a succession of well-known performance car specialists and the vendor tells us that it runs perfectly with no known issues at all.
The cam belts were changed by a specialist on behalf of the owner about six years ago but the car has been dry stored and has covered minimal mileage since, being MOT’d annually and kept running but used pretty sparingly overall. It starts well, idles smoothly, holds good oil pressure and sounds fantastic.
It also comes with a high-quality aftermarket Tubi exhaust, a full stainless-steel system that sounds quite fruity but is far from excessive. If you wanted to return it to standard, the vendor has retained the original exhaust system and this is available by separate negotiation.
SUMMARY
Overall, this has to be one of the best examples of the 328GTS on the market right now, meticulously and carefully maintained by a loving owner who is very reluctant to part with it.
It's presented in sensational condition, with fabulous bodywork, a truly beguiling interior and apparently in rude mechanical health. It's a fantastic example and one not to miss.
