The Appeal
Nothing says ‘80s affluence quite like a white convertible 911 on Fuchs alloys.
Sports cars from this period are becoming immensely sought after as those who pinned posters of cars like this Porsche on their bedroom walls are now of an age where they finally realise their dream. If this is what you were talking about back then, we have the very thing you’ve been lusting after all these years…
We’re informed that this 3.2-litre Carrera Cabriolet has had just three owners from new and benefits from recent restoration work to the bodywork, underside and convertible roof.
The History and Paperwork
- The vendor tells us that this 911 was acquired by its second owner as a gift for their nephew in 1993
- The third and present owner reportedly purchased the car in 2009
- We’re informed that routine maintenance in present ownership ensures this porsche remains in very fine fettle
The Interior
- Believed to be very original indeed
- Uphsolerterd in black leather and vinyl
- Everything has worn in nicely over the years
We really enjoy how original everything feels inside this 911’s cabin and with all the upholstery wearing in nicely over time, climbing aboard feels much like slipping on a pair of old shoes.
The seats exhibit a light dusting of patina, with some slight creasing commensurate with age but nothing we’d describe as excessive wear or damage. There are also rear seats, meaning this is a car the whole family can enjoy.
The dashboard presents well, with no sun damage so far as we could see. Porsches are of course famous for their fine instrumentation and their five-dial cluster is the layout they’re most famous for. All the gauges are very legible and we’re notified that they work as expected. Likewise, all the switchgear apparently functions correctly, including the Blaupunkt radio and electric windows.
All the carpeting is in nice condition and the same can be said for the door panels. There is minimal wear to the controls besides the light sheen of use and we couldn’t detect the presence of any aftermarket additions or alterations. The forward luggage compartment appears in good shape and houses a spare wheel.
The Exterior
- White paintwork
- Two-tone Fuchs alloy wheels
- Soft top convertible roof
We’re sure you’ll agree that 911s of this era have really come of age. Finished in white and set off perfectly by its two-tone fuchs alloys, this example is very evocative of 1980s opulence.
The paint looks to be very smart and the vendor informs us that the bodywork recently received some attention. It appears really straight down the sides and the panels fit nicely. We enjoy the singular lack of chrome trim, distinguishing this car from earlier iterations.
We’re informed that the underside has recently been restored and at a glance we see that it all looks to be in good condition under there. The soft top roof as well is in really nice shape and the vendor tells us it has been renovated to “like new” condition.
The aforementioned Fuchs wheels have apparently been refurbished recently and are shod with new tyres all round. The impact bumpers with their distinctive ‘bellows’ appear in nice condition, with no evidence of accident damage.
The Mechanics
- 3.2-litre naturally aspirated flat-six
- Five-speed manual gearbox
- Recent new clutch assembly and air conditioning compressor
The vendor informs us that this car benefits from a history of judicious servicing and there are apparently no faults to report while driving.
Most recently, we’re notified that the car has received a new clutch assembly and an overhaul of the air conditioning compressor.
All 911s are engaging cars to drive and this is no exception. That 3.2-litre naturally aspirated flat-six issues a distinctive bark and the 911’s unconventional weight distribution promises handling that’ll keep you on your toes.
Summary
If a car could define a decade, we think this 911 is a strong contender when it comes to representing the 1980s. We enjoy its originality and are sure its next owner will be immensely pleased with it.
