HIGHLIGHTS
- C-Type replica
- Reputable manufacturer – Realm Engineering
- MOT until March 2023
THE APPEAL
The Jaguar C-Type is a legendary car among enthusiasts, winning Le Mans twice in the ‘50s and doing so with stylish flair. But with just 53 examples ever produced and sold, it has to be one of the most exclusive classic cars around.
Worcestershire-based Realm Engineering brings the possibility of C-Type ownership to a wider audience by producing their own replica version of this iconic racer. They do a fantastic job of bringing alive the spirit of the Golden Age of motor racing with their beautifully crafted replicas.
This C-Type is built around a space-frame chassis and is powered by a 4.2-litre Series 3 XJ engine. It remains in excellent condition and wears smart Ecurie Ecosse livery.
HISTORY AND PAPERWORK
- First registered on the road in 2010
- Sale includes all the original documents and invoices
- Letter of provenance for the Jaguar engine
- Long MOT to March 2023
THE INTERIOR
- Authentic driving experience
- Sporty aero-screens
- Very clean, few signs of use
The view from the low driver’s seat through the skimpy aero screens and down the sculpted bonnet lets you experience what it would have been like to be Stirling Moss at Le Mans.
Opening the door – or just looking over it – we can immediately see that this car has covered very few miles. The seats are in fine condition and the carpets show little sign of wear. But the fact that there are carpets fitted at all is a luxury. Original C-types were all-out racing cars, devoid of such niceties.
The large-diameter wooden steering wheel complements the well-appointed dashboard and all controls are easily accessible. But there is not much in the way of weather equipment. A tonneau cover can be fitted for storage, but there is no roof so the car comes supplied with a matching pair of Jaguar branded driving hats.
THE EXTERIOR
- Eye-catching Ecurie Ecosse livery
- A few blemishes in the paintwork
- Spotless underneath
Handcrafted by Realm Engineering, the composite bodywork is a near-exact match to the car it aspires to be. The bulbous front end and flowing bonnet are both trademark attributes of the 1952 competition car, while the side profile perfectly demonstrates the links to the standard XK120.
Finished in the stunning Ecurie Ecosse livery, the car looks amazing and will turn heads anywhere it goes. In fact, the car was chosen to feature on the flyer for the 2018 Bromley Pageant of Motoring.
The paintwork has a few minor blemishes in places, notably around the clamshell bonnet and above the wheels as well as below the right-hand bonnet catch. But these are only noticeable up close and do not detract from the overall appearance of the car.
Finally, the beautiful wire spoke wheels are a perfect addition to top off what is an excellent recreation of the iconic Le Mans racer.
Under the bodywork is a space-frame chassis complete with brackets built in a very similar way to that of the original car. Flat aluminium plates are riveted to the underside of the chassis. There is no discernible corrosion to the underneath of this car. This corroborates the fact that the owner used it sparingly and only in the summer months, notably for an annual tour of Kent.
THE MECHANICS
- 205hp 4.3-litre XK inline-six engine
- Toyota manual transmission
- Very clean under the bonnet
Lifting the clamshell bonnet reveals the 4.3-litre inline-six XK engine commonly found powering the Series 3 Jaguar XJ. Visually, it’s topped off with a ‘C-Type’ cam cover badge, an additional touch to the replica.
The entire engine bay looks immaculately well maintained as the chrome sparkles in the sunlight. The rest of the mechanical components look in equally good shape from the wishbone suspension to the disc brakes and side exit exhaust. The engine sends its 205hp to the rear wheels through a Toyota-produced manual transmission.
There is an exhaustive history file which contains a huge number of receipts for every item of spending upon this car. It details just how fastidiously the owner has looked after it and ensured that it never wants for anything.
SUMMARY
Built by Realm Engineering to be driven and enjoyed, this replica is an excellent homage to the real car that took on the giants of Le Mans racing and won, securing its place in the history books of motorsport. It is complete with a powerful engine, beautiful Ecurie Ecosse livery and a handcrafted body to rival the original C-Type.
This is a fantastic opportunity to acquire a very well made replica of Jaguar’s iconic C-type, which has been maintained to the highest of standards and used sparingly. It is ready to be seen barrelling down country lanes, providing a worthwhile public service as a piece of mobile artwork wherever it goes.
