The Appeal
The design of 80’s Porsche cars is something instantly recognisable by all and truly loved by many car enthusiasts. The distinctive front end is just as instantly recognisable as the truly wonderful sound of the 3.2 liter, air cooled flat six engine that made these cars an incredibly popular choice by many.
This superb example was originally registered in California, USA and spent a large part of its life in a very dry climate before moving to croatia in 2013. In recent times the engine, paintwork and interior have all had major maintenance or refreshing, bringing this car back to its original glory in all aspects.
The History and Paperwork
- Original Croatia registration document, making it fully registered in the European Union
- Original California title document photocopy
- Engine dyno report
This car comes with all the documentation that backs up where the car came from and has been in its life. There is also included a engine dyno printout presumably post rebuild with a readout of 195.85BHP, a very healthy figure indeed. Other official paperwork is included, all in Croatian and would need translation and no restoration paperwork is included either, but ultimately the evidence is in the condition of the vehicle.
Being a California car from 1985-2013 the car has spent the vast majority of its life in a dry climate, a place well known for keeping cars in fantastic shape although the car has covered a significant amount of kilometers before its restoration around 2013 thought to be in the region of 372,000Km.
The Interior
- Beautifully retrimmed seats and carpets
- Lovely condition throughout the cabin with some original features remaining
- Virtually everything working with the exception of the speakers
- Dashboard in great condition with no evident cracking or sun damage
This cabrio interior is a superb place to be having been treated to a full recent refit yet retaining some patina in places.
The seats are in absolutely gorgeous shape, the ‘tombstone’ seats having little signs of wear or sagging, the most evident wear on the driver's seat which is to be expected. The leather steering wheel looks as though it has been retrimmed too, showing abnormally low wear given the age of the car.

We are told that all the dials work as they should including the lighting, horn and A/C.
All the colors used are period correct and really do suit the car, the main interior carpets being dark blue along with the leather seats and the mats are in black with ‘Porsche’ stitched into the drivers and passenger mats. One of the rear mats does have a stain, something that is likely easily remedied and two vents have slightly misaligned flaps and are possibly the only major things to note about the condition of the interior.

Many of the switches and knobs have been left as original, keeping the period correct feel about the interior and overall is ultimately a delightful place to be.
The Exterior
- Recently repainted in the original Prussian blue metallic, finished to an excellent standard
- Very nicely refinished wheels, shod in Toyo Proxies R1R tyres all round
- Convertible hood is in excellent shape with no evidence of fading or damage
- Exterior plastics and light lenses all appear clean, clear and undamaged given the age of the vehicle
- Original PCA window sticker
- New canvas roof
Looking absolutely stunning from all angles, the Prussian blue paint on this 911 Cabrio is truly remarkable. A superbly deep flake really makes the paint pop in the sun, and the finish to the paint is top drawer with no real evidence of orange peel or marring, just a true mirror-like shine. The vendor describes the exterior and ‘near mint’ condition, and we agree, with only a couple of very minor marks that would only be noticed on very close inspection.
Looking at the more delicate areas, the badges, plastics and trims all appear in very nice condition, everything has been treated, painted or refreshed in some way keeping all the usual items that fade in really nice shape, complimenting the superb paintwork well and making the exterior of this vehicle and absolute joy to look at from afar or up-close. Nothing appears to need attention or replacement and really is just ready to enjoy.
The Mechanics
- Full engine rebuild performed with just over 3000 Km since
- Reported to rev, drive and shift gears with no issues at all
- Stunning sound from the exhaust, the classic Porsche soundtrack
It is evident just by listening to the car idle that the car is healthy and well maintained. The engine sounds just like it should with that classic off-beat sound that we all know and love! Going by the Croatian paperwork and by word of the vendor, the car has covered some significant kilometers before being rebuilt and the odometer being reset, but evidently the work carried out has been to not just a high standard but also very in-depth as the way the car is reported to run and drive would indicate a very fresh and healthy car.
The real star of the show though is the underside of the car which is incredibly clean for the age. It appears the car has gone totally unmodified, retaining the original exhaust system too. The underside of the engine and transmission is very clean showing no evidence of any major oil leaks but not so clean as if anything suspect has been cleaned off, evidently a very well attended to engine.
Looking around the suspension components, it's evident too that this car has spent its life in a dry climate and rarely has seen the elements. All the components are virtually corrosion free with just the lightest surface rust in places where no paint or protection is present and even common items for corrosion such as backing plates are totally solid. We saw no evidence of welding or panel replacement on the underside, though this cannot be guaranteed, though the underside still wears the original protectant from the factory with no aftermarket underseal or stone guard potentially hiding work carried out.
Summary
Overall this 911 is a fine example of engineering and design from the famous Stuttgart factory that has survived and no doubt brought a lot of pleasure to the owners and drivers. Blessed with a plethora of new parts and in-depth work since its move to Croatia, this car is ready for its new owner and many more miles of that superb and distinctive Porsche sound.
