The Appeal
If we had to think of a British equivalent to the Dodge Charger, we’d probably pick the Ford Capri – and that’s clearly what the previous owner of this car had in mind when they created this Dukes of Hazard inspired restomod.
Boasting a raft of mechanical and cosmetic upgrades including a V6 engine swap and BMW leather upholstery, we’re assured this 1984 Capri is as exciting to drive as it is to look at. If the General Lee aesthetic isn’t for you, the vendor informs us that all the vinyls could be removed, leaving a smart resto modded Capri.
Whatever the future holds for this car, we’re sure the next owner will really enjoy it.
The History and Paperwork
- Left the factory as a Metallic Grey 2.8 Injection
- It has since been painted yellow and is now resplendent in orange (which is reflected in the logbook)
- Six former owners
- The previous owner originally commissioned a respray in order to relive their youth spent with an orange Capri
- They were persuaded to carry out further modifications, resulting in the car we see today
- We’re informed that in excess of £15,000 was spent in total
- V5C present
- Collection of old tax discs and MOT certificates
- There are some invoices for parts and serving
- MOT valid until March 2024 with no advisories
The Interior
- Leather upholstery taken from a BMW
- Retro modern stereo apparently works well
- Besides some general wear to the seat bolsters, there’s not much to report and no indication of damage
- The dashboard presents really well, as do the switches and instruments held within
- All the carpeting is in good order, with just a little wear
- No boot carpeting fitted at present
- The battery is now housed in the boot, inside a dedicated box
- All the door trims appear in nice shape
- Overall, a presentable and eminently usable interior with some tasteful modifications
The Exterior
- Striking orange paintwork, completed on a rotisserie to ensure comprehensive coverage
- Fitted with General Lee-style vinyls
- 15” black 10-spoke STR Racing alloys wheels in very nice condition
- Ford badge delete
- Equipped with a sunroof and rear spoiler
- The vendor points out some paintwork imperfections including a couple of cracks at the front and some microblistering, orange peel and flat spots elsewhere
- Straight bodywork with no corrosion apparent
- Appears really sound underneath
- Overall, it presents quite well and is not to shiny or highly finished to enjoy using
The Mechanics
- Engine conversion from a 2.8 injection to a Ford 2.9 V6 BOA Cosworth
- Aeroquip fuel lines
- Retains a 2.8i five-speed gearbox and rear axle
- Uprated to an aluminium radiator with electric fan K&N induction kit
- Performance exhaust system
- Drilled and grooved front brake discs
- Polyurethane bushes
- The vendor informs us that it drives really well indeed
- Equipped with a ‘Dixie’ horn
Summary
Often the best cars are the ones we have the most fun in, and this Capri looks like a terrific laugh. A nicely executed restomod with some great upgrades, don’t miss the chance to own this fast Ford.
