THE APPEAL

This example was purchased by the vendor with a seized engine. He has since given it a sympathetic restoration and fitted a replacement engine. Mechanically the bike is reported to have been thoroughly inspected, and items replaced or refurbished as required. Cosmetically some parts have been replaced or repainted to leave a clean appearance. Once finished, it was ridden for just five miles before going into storage, where it has been for the past eight months. Lack of space and other projects on the go is why this 70s icon is looking for a new home.   

THE HISTORY AND PAPERWORK 

• V5 is present
• First registered 17th March 1981
• Invoice for the rebuilding of the forks
• A couple of invoices for various parts used

THE CONDITION 

• Reported by the vendor to be a UK bike
• The restoration was carried out by the vendor eight months ago 
• Finished in a silver and black colour scheme
• There are some minor marks on the paintwork, which have unfortunately been picked up whilst in storage
• Front mudguard is in excellent condition with no dings or dents 
• There is a small ding in the top of the petrol tank to the left-hand side
• Gloss black frame looks in good condition with no areas for concern
• Instruments are in good order and reported to be working correctly
• The odometer was replaced to match the mileage on the replacement engine and shows 10,183 miles
• The handlebars and mirrors have a bright finish, with just a small amount of tarnishing
• Brake and clutch levers look to have minor tarnishing under the gloss black finish
• Headlight has been replaced and is in excellent condition with no chips
• The front and rear indicators are excellent, with no splits or cracks
• Switchgear was working when the bike went into storage; there is a small amount of patina in keeping with the age
• The seat looks to be the original and is in excellent condition
• The rear light lens has no cracks or splits

THE MECHANICS

• Inline three-cylinder 750cc
• Replacement engine fitted with a reported 10,183 miles covered
• The engine was serviced, and some new parts and gaskets were fitted before the installation
• There is some minor tarnishing to the aluminium engine casing, but this should polish up quite easily
• Five-speed gearbox was said to be working correctly before going into storage
• Motat exhaust system has some light scratches to the casing
• The brakes were overhauled at the restoration and were said to be working fine. 
• Braided brake pipes fitted 
• The forks have been resealed
• The cast aluminium wheels look to be the originals and are in excellent condition
• Avon RoadRider tyres are fitted front and rear, which look like new 
• The Yamaha was said to be running just fine eight months ago before it went into storage. However, it has been recommended that the bike be given a complete check-over and light recommissioning before being ridden again.
