The Appeal
While introducing some concessions to comfort and practicality, such as the synchronized gearbox, a new dashboard and the instrument panel moved behind the steering wheel, the Land Rover series III remained aesthetically very close to the previous versions, and for this reason it is one of the most beloved and sought after models.
The short-wheelbase 88 version, with its compact dimensions that allow inimitable agility, is an almost unbeatable off-road vehicle.
This particular example, which has spent most of its life being used as a farm vehicle in a large country estate in central Italy, despite showing many signs of wear on the outside and a few prominent flaws in the passenger compartment, has always been kept in efficient mechanical condition, and is in perfect working order, having received major maintenance over the last year, including brake maintenance, the replacement of the clutch master cylinder, a new radiator with new hoses, a new fuel pump and all new filters and fluids.
With its unstressed and frugal diesel engine, it presents an excellent opportunity for an enthusiast to acquire a particularly interesting model and tend to its tired aesthetics bringing it back to its best shape or, alternatively, to take advantage of its mechanical efficiency to indulge in fun off-road outings without worrying too much about scratches and damages to the bodywork.
The History and Paperwork
- First registered in 1981
- Italian registration documents
- ASI (Italian Historic Automotoclub) registered since 2010
- Registered as a truck
Having spent most of its existence in the hands of the same family and having almost always been used within a private property, the documentation is not updated. However, the original Italian "Libretto di circolazione" registration is present and the seller will provide all the other documents necessary for the transfer of ownership.
In 2010 its historical interest was recognized with the ASI registration, which also involves an examination of the vehicle's originality and mechanical efficiency.
