The Appeal
When the RD250 & 350 LC models were first shown to the public in 1979 for release in 1980, they took the motorcycle world by storm.
Powerful, lightweight, liquid cooled, mono shocked suspension motorcycles with 100 mph capabilities just hadn’t been seen before and to cap it all, here in the UK, they could be ridden on ‘L’ plates.
They really were revolutionary when they arrived, and very quickly topped the wanted list of just about every 17 year old, graduating up from his Yamaha FS1E of Suzuki AP50 mopeds.
Of course, they also caught the eye of clubman racers and many subsequently found their way onto race circuits throughout the country.
This RD LC however has led a more sheltered life.
Starting off in Germany where modifications away from standard are illegal, it remains in exceptional original condition, un-messed with and full of genuine Yamaha production parts, therefore this really is a rare beast and just how the market now demands.

Since then, this Yamaha has been ridden regularly and there are a few small signs of use throughout but nothing which detracts from the overall beauty of this ‘80s motorcycling icon.
The Mechanics
The vendor tells us that a full engine rebuild has been carried out by himself roughly 1000 miles ago.
He tells us that this included a new crankshaft, bearings and seals throughout the engine & gearbox, pistons, rings and new gaskets and the barrel was honed out.

He also commented that it runs and rides extremely well, with the engine being quiet and crisp just as an 80's 2 stroke should!
