THE APPEAL

Based on the platform of the Triumph 2000 and sharing its front panels, the strikingly handsome Stag made its debut in 1970, six years after Michelotti first imagined it as concept car at the 1964 Turin Motor Show.
This one is from the final year of production – 1978 – and is as refined and developed as the Stag ever got. But more importantly, it has just emerged from a comprehensive rebuild.
The car was bought new by a lady owner and sold at just one yer old to a gentleman in Liverpool who owned it until it was taken off the road in 2002, where it went into in dry storage. Following his passing, it was registered to his wife until 2015.
It was acquired by the vendor a couple of years ago after the previous keeper acknowledged he was too advanced in years to restore it, and over the past two years the vendor and his son, who runs a specialist classic car garage, have returned it to its former glory, renewing every part imaginable with components from well-known specialists. The engine was sent away and rebuilt by Thurston Engineering, which specialises in classic engine rebuilds.
Meanwhile, the vendor began a full restoration of the vehicle, completely stripping it back to its shell, having it sandblasted and fitting in a new floor, sills and body parts.
It has since been completely rebuilt form the ground-up and not a stone left unturned. It’s marvellous – a labour of love, ready to be enjoyed and appreciated by a new owner who should need to do nothing more to it.
It comes with an extensive history, including a handwritten schedule for repairs and Service with accompanying invoices and records for all work completed from 1979 to today!

Vendor is also a Stag Owners Club member and the car comes with a collection of S.O.C monthly magazines.

SUMMARY

There’s a strong following for Triumph Stags but in recent months they’ve been shooting up in value, especially for unspoilt examples with the correct Triumph V8.
This one will undoubtedly sell well – it’s a fully restored car with a truly impeccable history and is pretty much flawless throughout having been subjected to a comprehensive engine-out rebuild, stripped, restored, repaired and repainted and then refitted with a completely rebuilt V8. It’s a fabulous example – as good as they’ll ever get.
