Highlights
- Tidy and original feel with mild patina
- Classic colour scheme
- Ideal classic for regular use or a light restoration project
The Appeal
Presented here is a classic example of a 1978 MG B GT that has seen little use of late and has a nice original feel. Currently kept in a dry garage, this car appears mechanically sound with a strong sounding engine, period-correct interior that could possibly be original, and light patina all round.
The History and Paperwork
- V5 showing just 4 previous keepers
- Previously kept on the Isle of Arran that may explain the mileage although it cannot be guaranteed
- Limited paperwork to backup the cars history but there are some period-correct handbooks and manuals included
The Interior
- Tidy and apparently mostly original throughout
- All the electronics seem to work, although the radio is reported as unpredictable and a new clock has been fitted due to it not keeping time
- The headlining and carpets are in good nick, usual wear and could use some light cleaning - No significant damage or missing parts and would make a nice summer project - Small cuts in the vinyl in the boot area that would benefit from attention
The Exterior
- British racing green paint work that is not original but well applied. This would benefit from a professional polish, but otherwise the bodywork is very straight.
- The wheels are in super order and recently shod in a fresh set of tyres
- Some damage to the front splitter due to a very slow impact with a rock. This is a fibreglass panel and could be repaired
- All the chromework and trims have very light patina but all appear intact and present
The Mechanics
- Full set of tyres recently fitted
- The car started perfectly with no visible smoke upon startup from cold
- Nice and tidy under the bonnet with many original features
- Usual minor oil weeping from the usual areas but nothing significant that we saw in the engine bay or underneath
- New radiator fitted with an electric fan for reliability
- Overdrive overhauled last summer
- The underside is solid though surface corrosion has manifested itself and would need attention to avoid it spreading
Summary
The absolute definition of a classic, this MG B hides nothing and wears its imperfections well. This would be a good opportunity to procure a solid example of a true classic that has plenty of room for improvement yet could easily be used as it is, being mechanically sound with a tidy and usable interior.
