Known for their near-endless practicality and un-rivalled charm, the transporter is often the go-to choice for many a holidaymaker, and weekend explorer.

This, of course, is a T2 transporter, distinguishable from its predecessor by its single-bay windscreen, larger profile, and an array of mechanical upgrades. This particular example also showcases a Devon Conversions pop-top roof, a bed for two, and a vast array of onboard comforts and equipment.

In addition to being incredibly well equipped for trips away, this Transporter also benefits from caring ownership, excellent maintenance and a welcome amount of mechanical upgrades. As such, it presents a superb all-in-one package for those looking to escape to the countryside in both comfort and style.

In true Campervan fashion, this T2 boasts a superbly well-equipped interior, showing off Devon Conversion’s craftsmanship, and a huge range of upgrades. The first items you’re likely to notice upon opening the sliding door, are the pop-top roof, and the rock & roll bed for two, which comes with storage space underneath. Devon Conversions also equipped the vehicle with two pull-out hammocks, which are included in the sale and can easily be refitted if desired.
The current keeper has also skillfully put their engineering experience to work, installing the likes of an electric screen washer, a battery voltmeter, an oil pressure gauge and a temperature gauge. This Volkswagen also features a discreet electric hookup, with a ZIG unit, a leisure battery and a Waeco compressor fridge. The vehicle has also been fitted with a roof-mounted solar panel, which is at hand to charge the leisure battery, and can even run the efficient fridge, with no electrical hookup.
The cabin also features a 50-litre water tank, and electric pump to provide filtered water for all of your washing, and cooking needs. On the topic of cooking, the vehicle comes equipped with a 2-ring gas cooker and grill, which can even be swung out for al-fresco cooking in the sunshine if needed. Both a full and a partially full gas bottle are to be included in the sale.
In addition to being rather well equipped in terms of appliances and comforts, this Campervan also boasts plenty of storage space, including under seat storage, cupboards under the sink, top access storage for cutlery and utensils, and storage space for pots and pans under the cooker. There’s also a tall birch plywood cupboard to the side, which holds the electric hook-up control panel towards the top.
All in all, this is an incredibly well-equipped Campervan, with a vast arsenal of comforts and storage options at your disposal. Everything within the cabin is believed to be in full working order and is sure to provide bountiful comfort and convenience for any future road trip.

The Exterior

  • Iconic two-tone paintwork
  • 14” steel wheels
  • Pop-out roof, and side-fitting sun canopy
  • Includes an indoor dust cover, and a high-quality breathable outdoor cover
  • Benefits from garage storage, and excellent care
  • Presented in fantastic condition today
As the included images reflect, this gorgeous T2 shows off its signature retro styling cues, in a truly fantastic manner. The paintwork offers a very presentable finish across the board, with seemingly only a small handful of blemishes to note. Although hardly detrimental to the overall finish, these include slight wear from the sliding door and a previously touched-up area towards the offside sill. That said, everywhere else appears to offer a very respectable finish, including the vehicle’s underside and chassis.
Accompanying the eye-catching paintwork and completing the iconic retro look we all love, are the van’s 14” steel wheels. Beautifully finished in white, with gleaming centre caps to suit, the wheels offer excellent faces, with only minuscule blemishes. The wheels come wrapped in a set of Goodyear tyres, with tread left to enjoy.
It deserves to be highlighted that all additional trim components also offer fantastic finishes, including the vehicle’s glass, badging, and brightwork. A great deal of this can likely be attributed to the current keeper’s care over the years, dry garage storage, and sunny holiday ventures. In order to further protect the vehicle, the current keeper is also including an indoor fitted dust cover, and a top-of-the-range three-layer breathable fitted outdoor cover, for when garaging may not be possible.
Overall, this T2 stands as a truly fantastic showcase of the iconic camper, offering a great exterior finish. This is a well-cared-for vehicle that will no doubt attract the admiration of onlookers wherever it journeys.

The Mechanics

  • 1970cc flat-four, benefitting from previous rebuild work and upgrades
  • Smooth automatic transmission, recently serviced and in fantastic working order
  • Power-assisted brakes as standard, with new front discs, and rear drums
  • Twin choke Dellorto DRLA 40 carburettors with K&N filters

  • Fantastic maintenance history, with notable engine refurbishment and servicing
  • Equipped with manual choke, and a fuel prime switch for easy start-up
  • More than ready to be enjoyed by the next lucky keeper
  • Advisory-free MOT until 29 March 2024
Although no slouch in its original form when compared to its 1600cc brethren, this Baywindow Campervan has since been treated to considerable mechanical upgrades and an engine rebuild at 80,000 miles. Although a strip down revealed rather respectable internal health, the engine was treated to new big end, main, thrust and camshaft bearings, along with an uprated camshaft.
Later at 95,000 miles, the vehicle also received new manifolds, and a new pair of twin-choke Dellorto DRLA 40 carburettors, with new K&N air filters for greater performance and longevity. At the same time, the vehicle was also fitted with an electric fuel pump and pressure regulator, with an under-dashboard mounted safety relay to prevent unwanted fuel when the engine is stopped.
At 100,000 miles, this well-maintained T2 then received yet more welcome engine refurbishment, in the form of new cylinder heads, new valves & springs, as well as new higher compression barrels and pistons. As a result of the extensive engine maintenance and upgrades, you’ll find this T2 boasts plenty of power across the rev range, making light enough work of even the steepest of hills.
Although it should come as no surprise given the considerable expense and attention paid to the vehicle’s mechanical health, buyers will be pleased to know that the vehicle is said to perform exactly as it should. As the current keeper also gladly reports excellent reliability throughout their ownership, this well-maintained T2 is more than ready to explore at the drop of a hat.

Summary

Few vehicles offer the same practicality and retro charm as a Volkswagen T2 Campervan, with a great deal falling short of the impressive specification and equipment present on this very model.

Now presented in fantastic condition for its age, with plenty of upgrades, and excellent mechanical health, this T2 is more than ready for its next journey.
