1977 MGB Roadster

Highlights

  • Recent re-spray
  • Fast Road Spec Engine
  • Large history file

Appeal

The MGB roadster needs little introduction and has to be one of the most popular British classic cars to own.
This one would appear to have all the right attributes for a great driving car, with no pressing jobs that need attention. The body looks good, handling has been improved and the engine has more grunt over standard.
The interior is mostly original and in great condition, so too is the roof which should keep the rain out for many years to come .
Nip down the pub on a sunny evening or the local car show on a Saturday afternoon , these MGBs are more than capable of just about any type of driving you can throw at them, reliable & cheap to maintain with a great owners club following , this could be what you’re looking for.

History & Paperwork

  • Current V5c registration document
  • Mot exempt but last tested in 2017.  Many old Mot certificates dating back to the early ‘90’s
  • Large history file of invoices for parts & work over the years
  • Aldon Automotive invoice for the rebuilt engine
  • Converted to chrome bumpers and re-painted in 2004 by Jacobs Engineering

The Interior

  • Leather seats
  • Good carpets
  • Alloy dashboard trim
  • Moto-Lita wood trimmed steering wheel
A nice and tidy cabin greets the occupants as they slip down into the black leather seats of this Roadster. Carpets in black are in good condition and we suggest that they may have been replaced at some time.
The dashboard retains much of its originality, black vinyl top and original dials these being oil pressure, speedometer, rev counter and engine temperature. Original switchgear complements an alloy facia and glove box with the centre console housing the clock & heater controls and is all in a very tidy , presentable condition with just a little room for a new owner to add a few finishing touches.
We’re told be the vendor that all electrics work as expected & the car at some time had been fitted to a new wiring harness.

Exterior

  • Only 43,924 miles indicated
  • Invoices for body restoration work which we believe was carried out between 2003 and 2007
  • Excellent Old English White paintwork
  • Good Mohair roof and cover for when the roof is down
  • Excellent chrome work throughout
It would appear from invoices that much restoration work was carried out during 2003 – 2007 mostly by Jacobs Engineering of Gloucester & by the then owner and we’d suggest that not many miles have been covered since then.
The car’s Mot history shows that in 2007 the indicated mileage was 34,712 mls , therefore this MG has only covered just over 9,000 mils since then. This equates to an average of 1,000 miles a year approximately, which we imagine was only driven during the summer months.
Paintwork is exceptionally presentable throughout, with chrome work to match.

Mechanics

  • Quiet & smooth engine
  • Electronic Ignition
  • Overdrive gearbox
  • Overhauled brakes
  • New wheel bearings
When started and moved around for the photoshoot, this MG Roadster sounded deep and throaty through its stainless exhaust silencer.
We’re told by the vendor that the car drives well and preforms exceptional well with it’s stage two fast road engine in place.
Suspension has been upgraded with Koni dampers all round and also front and rear uprated anti roll bars as part of an aftermarket handling kit available from a number of MG specialists.

Summary

Overall, this really is a great MGB Roadster, with its retro chrome bumper looks harking back to the late ‘60s.
Uprated in the important places giving it a little more poke and the improved suspension will certainly improve handling, this Roadster would appear to be a good proposition for any aspiring British sports car owner.
