The Alfa Rome GT1600 Junior is a pretty little Italian car that filled a gap in their line up perfectly. Small , revvy engines with RWD and to die for good looks it really is one of the prettiest cars to come out of Italy.

Being an Alfa it has passion, decent handling and above all else immense style built in from factory. 

This particular example has spent its most recent years tucked up in a dry garage under cover awaiting rescue. It was made in Italy and first registered in South Africa (hence RHD) in 1976.

In 1979 it was imported to the UK and according to cars clocks and accompanying paperwork was on 63k Kilometres when it arrived on our shores, it now shows 76k KM.

The car was last taxed in 1997 and it is assumed that it has not been on the road since then however it does appear to have had new tyres and possibly some minor work done in an attempt to recommission it in the mid 2000s. We are unsure if it made it as far as being on the road, the available history would suggest not.

The car comes with an old Blue and green V5 and has a few previous MOTs and receipts. It has been off the road for some while so there is nothing recent present.

The interior is largely intact but definitely showing signs of being sat unused for some time. At the very least it needs a very deep clean and possibly some new carpets. The passenger seat bolster stitching has let go and so it will need at least an upholstery repair.

The passenger seat also has some stains on it and some holes in the leather which will need attention.

The exterior paint is very flat and there are dents in the passenger door on the waistline and paint marks over the offside front wing with some corrosion at the bottom of the same wing.

There are a few other examples of corrosion as pictured.

The chrome accents and bumpers are all pitted and will need rechroming, the cars bodywork will also need a full restoration. The car sits on its standard steel wheels which do have corrosion and they are wrapped in tyres that are dated 2005 so they will be past their use by date and be considered not roadworthy.

In the engine bay, there is surface corrosion on most of the parts and the engine does not look to have run properly for some time. The clutch pedal is seized and without further investigation its difficult to ascertain why.

Due to there being no battery present and the engine not being run at the time of visiting, it’s difficult to say if there are any other mechanical faults with the vehicle so it should be assumed that removal of the powertrain and full rebuild/recommission is required.

The running gear has a lot of surface corrosion and the exhaust is rotted through completely so will need replacing.

The car also comes with a second set of clocks reading MPH, maybe there was an intention to swap the clocks for UK spec MPH ones at some point.

This Alfa GT Junior is a true barn find. It has been parked lovingly with the intention of resurrection at some point otherwise they wouldn’t have gone to the trouble of making sure it was in a largely dry, secure environment.

Over the years for whatever reason it has been forgotten about and unfortunately has not been put back on the road and it now sits just waiting for someone with the time passion and know how, to bring it back to life.

Let’s be absolutely clear, this is a project that will need the time effort and resources to undertake a full recommission of bodywork and mechanicals to be roadworthy again but once finished, it would be one of circa 130 that exist in the UK today.

A lot of work, a lot to think about but if you’re a true petrol head that likes to get their hands dirty, a lot of reasons why it can and should be resurrected!
