1975 Suzuki GT750M Le Mans

HIGHLIGHTS

• Restored in 2020
 • Unused since restoration
 • Many original parts

THE APPEAL

The Suzuki GT750, is a water-cooled 2-stroke, inline 3-cylinder tourer of a bike, perfect for munching up the miles through the 70s, and still capable of doing the same today.

The seller of this bike has saved it from being left unused and given it a new lease of life with a well-executed restoration, bringing it back to its former glory.
The only thing left untouched is the paintwork, which is how he got it when the Suzuki was imported from Japan in 2016. Everything else has been stripped, cleaned, reconditioned or replaced, giving the famous Water Bottle bike another chance to tour the roads once again.

THE HISTORY AND PAPERWORK

 • UK registered 25th January 2021
 • V5 present
 • Manufactured 1975
 • Vintage Japanese Motorcycle Club recognised
 • Zero previous UK keepers

THE EXTERIOR

 • Gentle restoration
 • New chrome work
 • Zero miles covered since restoration
 • Many new or refurbished parts
The Suzuki was imported into the UK in November 2016, and since then, it has been stored in the seller's workshop and gently restored. The process started by removing everything from the bike and assessing what parts should be replaced or reconditioned.

The painted fuel tank and side panels have been left as they were when the bike arrived. There are some previous signs of a repair to the right-hand side of the fuel tank. The frame was then powder coated in black before the reassembly began.
Looking around the GT750, the seller had everything re-chromed before being built back up, so it is in excellent condition, albeit a little dusty from storage. The lights and indicators have been replaced, therefore in as new condition.

Commonly, the seat base corrodes away from the battery acid, but not in this case, as the seller has managed to source a new seat base that has then had a new upper section fitted.
The handlebars are the polished originals, and the original grips remain along with the switchgear. The seller rebuilt the instruments and set them to 00000 miles to match the freshly rebuilt engine.

The chrome wheels have been replaced with new items and fitted with new tyres.

THE MECHANICS

 • Water-cooled 750cc
 • 5-speed
 • Rebuilt engine
 • Front twin disc brakes
The water-cooled 750cc engine has benefited from being rebuilt by JMC Restoration in Stockton on Tees, who specializes in restoring Japanese motorcycles, specifically the Suzuki GT750.

With over 80 years experience, the seller had peace of mind that these were the right people to recondition the engine and gearbox from the GT750.
The engine and gearbox casings have been polished to a bright finish before being refitted into the fresh frame. Barry Wilkes in Birmingham have rebuilt the carburettors; basically, whatever was needed to be replaced has been, and if it's not been replaced, it has been stripped down and reconditioned, back to working as good as it should.

The exhausts have been replaced with new replicas of the original and are in excellent order. The forks and rear dampers have been rebuilt with the relevant seals replaced.
This later 1975 model uses a twin-disc brake setup to the front, which has had the calipers refurbished, and the seller reports that the bike comes to a halt as it should. When we arrived to photograph the bike, there was no battery present.

The seller does say that the bike runs, rides and sounds as it should with no issues.

SUMMARY

A nice gentle restoration has been given to this GT750, retaining the paintwork it was imported with. Everything else has either been replaced or reconditioned, which includes a complete engine rebuild by JMC Restoration. Unused by the seller since the rebuild, it’s time for the new keeper to put some miles on this 70s tourer.
