The Background

First introduced in 1962, the MG MGB was British Motor Corporation’s lightweight, affordable 2 door sports car set to beat MG’s rivals and take the world by storm. With numerous models over the years, the roadster variant is arguably one of the most iconic British classic cars of all time.

Over the years, the MGB, and particularly the roadster variant, have developed an almost cult-like following, with one of the largest aftermarket communities in the world. To this day, companies continue to remanufacture OEM+ parts to meet the demand of MGB enthusiasts worldwide, meaning parts aren’t as rare to find as you may expect.

The History

First manufactured in 1974, this MGB started life as a rubber bumper model in Harvest Gold. As is the case with many MGBs, the car had served its purpose well throughout the early years, but now required a bit of tender loving care.
In 1994, the vehicle was rebuilt with a heritage shell, utilizing a mixture of both new and refurbished parts. As part of its rebuild, the car was converted to the much more desirable chrome bumpers and finished in Flame Red.
The current owner acquired the rebuilt vehicle in 2007, with just 6000 miles on the clock. Upon taking the car into their care, the current owner had the car checked over by a specialist and replaced any substandard parts. Upon noticing that the engine seemed a bit flat and tired already, the current keeper made the excellent decision to obtain a remanufactured Oselli Stage 2 engine, which provides greater power and performs fantastically.
Throughout its life with the current keeper, the car has been treated to a garaged lifestyle, only venturing out for classic car holidays and touring runs with the owners club. The greatest trip undertaken in this MGB was a tour of the South of France, where the car covered a mighty 2500 miles without a hitch.
During the last 2 years, the car has barely been used and currently sits tucked away in a dry garage awaiting its next outing. As the current owner is now unfortunately unable to enjoy and maintain the car as previously done, this beautiful MGB deserves to go to yet another loving home and will no doubt fill its new owner with pride.

The Paperwork

Buyers will be thrilled to know that this stunning MG comes with a large assortment of paperwork and history, including key items like previous MOTs, labour invoices, parts invoices, maintenance handbooks, and paperwork for goodies like the Oselli engine and 123 Ignition unit.
The paperwork also includes the heritage certificate, which validates the original 1974 build information and specification prior to the rebuild. In addition to this, the car received a thorough inspection from John Woods Motorcare, which ensures the classic is in full working order with no flaws. The inspection process is certainly rather in-depth and has a total of 136 safety checks.
The paperwork also includes the V5C, ready to sign over to the lucky new keeper.

The Interior

The interior is in fantastic condition, with very few signs of wear and tear. As the vehicle has covered few miles since being rebuilt and retrimmed inside the cabin, it should come as no surprise that the comfy black seats show minimal signs of wear, and still look excellent with the red piping.

Items such as the sporty 3 spoke steering wheel, gearknob, and controls follow suit, showing far fewer signs of the wear typically seen on other classics of this age. All dials and instruments are not only in full-working order but are also clear and free of damage, ensuring a clear view of vital information for the driver.
As expected, both door cards, window winders, and interior handles are in excellent condition, showing no signs of damage and the most minimal usage. With the exception of just one minor cosmetic mark on the inside of the vinyl hood, the headliner and inner carpets have also been very well cared for and are both clean and damage-free.
Overall, this MGB’s interior is a very pleasant space to find yourself in, and is well suited to enjoyable drives out in the sunshine.

The Exterior

Closely following the interior, the exterior of this vehicle is also in brilliant condition, with the Flame Red paintwork shining spectacularly in the sun. All chrome and trim pieces have been well taken care of, and retain a great deal of their shine and contrast.
The rear lights almost look brand new, and the front Cibie headlights easily follow suit. All glass and mirrors are also in great condition, with no noticeable marks or scratches. The roof has been very well taken care of, has no rips or tears, and folds away without issue. The car also comes with a wind deflector, perfect for driving with the top down in comfort.
All 4 Minilite pattern alloys are in fantastic condition and look absolutely sublime paired with the Flame Red bodywork. All 4 wheels are wrapped in Rainsport tyres, with plenty of tread for the new owner to enjoy out on the road.

The Mechanics

This is truly one of the more mechanically spectacular MGBs on the market today. Fitted with the Stage 2 Oselli engine, the car pulls exceptionally well and still continues to upstage even modern cars out on the road. The peppy engine pairs brilliantly with the 123 ignition unit to ensure perfect startup, and performance throughout the rev range. Perhaps best of all, it is easily one of the best sounding Bs out there and outputs a lovely growl through the stainless steel exhaust. This is certainly a well-prepared example, set up for both reliability and performance.
In addition to being packed with goodies, and set up brilliantly, the vehicle has no mechanical or electrical issues to report, ensuring stress-free motoring for the new owner. The vehicle has been regularly maintained by the current owner, with specialists completing the larger jobs. All additional goodies in the engine bay have separate fuses and are labeled clearly. The brakes perform as intended, as does the gearbox, with fully-functioning overdrive.
As this is a more performance-orientated MGB, it should come as no surprise that special attention has also been paid to the vehicle’s suspension. The car now features a stiffer front anti-roll bar, stiffer front dampers, and Koni telescopic dampers fitted to the rear.
Overall, this vehicle performs absolutely brilliantly, has been exceptionally reliable, and will without a doubt continue to roar through sunny B roads for many years to come.

The Appeal

The MGB is arguably one of the most iconic British cars ever produced and is a car that should be on the bucket list of any true motoring enthusiast or collector. It’s a stylish, simple to maintain sports car that has one of the largest followings and aftermarket communities, and is rapidly becoming few and far between.

This particular example in stunning Flame Red requires nothing to be enjoyed by its new owner, and eagerly awaits its next top-down adventure on the roads.
