The Appeal
Designed by Giugiaro during his time at Italdesign, the Alfetta is a handsome four-seater fastback. With a longitudinal front mounted twin cam engine, rear mounted gearbox and rear wheel drive, it offered fine handling characteristics alongside its elegant styling.
Here we have a very nice example, presented in a smart gold finish over a very fetching period interior. Benefiting from low mileage and limited use in recent years, this delightful little coupé is ready to find its new owner.
The History and Paperwork
- First registered in October 1975
- Just two owners from new
- Little used in the last 10 years and always garaged
- Last serviced and overhauled approximately 5 years ago
- Being sold due to lack of use
- Complete with an original handbook and Italian registration documents
The Interior
- Black vinyl upholstery with light blue-grey fabric facings to the seats
- All of the vinyl presents well, with no notable damage we could see and only light signs of wear
- The fabric seat fronts have some light sagging and creasing due to age but appear to be free from damage or tears, the driver’s seat has a small stain
- Black carpet with complementary overmats, the carpets are in good condition, with only the driver’s side showing any notable wear
- Cream headliner looks to be in good order, with no sagging or damage evident
- Wood rimmed steering wheel presents very well, as so all of the instruments and controls
- Rubber liner in the boot area, complete with spare wheel, original toolkit and spares
The Exterior
- Gold paintwork looks to be in very good condition, with just a few minor blemishes and some small scratches above the fuel filler
- 14” steel wheels with polished and branded hub-caps
- Matched Pirelli Cinturato tyres, apparently in nice condition with good tread
- Bodywork presents well, with one or two minor dings and some scabs at the base of the driver’s door, but overall a fine finish
- A couple of the inner wheel arches appear to have some corrosion
- The trims and badging all present well, with a light patina
- Included in the sale are a set of front spotlights and rear fog lights that have not been fitted to the car
- Underside appears to be clean and straight, with no significant damage or corrosion we could see
The Mechanics
- Characterful 1,779cc 4-cylinder DOHC pushing 120bhp to the rear wheels
- Delorto carburettors
- 5-speed manual transmission
- We’re told by the vendor that there is a small oil leak, as is typical of these engines
- Clean and tidy engine bay with no evidence of overheating or significant issues
- Some surface corrosion evident to the exhaust manifold
- We’re told by the vendor that the car runs very well, braking, accelerating and handling as it should
Summary
With its busy and intoxicating twin cam engine, manual transmission and that gorgeous 70s fastback styling, we think this Alfetta is a deeply endearing vehicle. Add in the none-more-70s paintwork and that classically styled interior with the over-sized rev-counter front and centre, and we think this would make a cracking buy for anyone with a love for classic Alfas.
