The Appeal
The campervan, now an iconic piece of automotive design. This example has to be one of the best classic examples out there. In the past 10 years, it has had a full restoration, a respray, and a lot of maintenance bits to keep it in tip-top condition.
With a 12v system, night heater, new memory foam mattress, and a water supply it is ready to go. It may not be quite in Concours condition, but it is about as close as you can get whilst still having a usable van.
The History and Paperwork
- Along with the two keys, there is a large folder full of paperwork
- The paperwork includes the normal V5 and a lot of MOT certificates
- During the previous ownership, the van went through a big restoration process
- At this point, everything that needed changing was done
- As they were an engineer it was done very well
- It also went through a course of rust work and prevention with Waxoyl
- The current owner acquired the van in 2017
- One of the first jobs completed was to fit a new electronic ignition system
- Along with some work to the heater
- This needed new heat exchangers, exhaust, and they also insulated the central heat pipe
- There were also new front brake calipers, discs, and brake pads fitted
- Within the living space, there is a new memory foam mattress, along with a duvet, pillows, a new 2-ton jack, 2 camping chairs, and a cool box amongst other parts
- It also has a nice new leisure battery
- All in there are about £11,500 worth of invoices present and a lot of them have been photographed
- It is now your chance to get behind the wheel of this wonderful classic and take it on some great adventures in the future
- There is nothing better than getting out on the road and setting up wherever you wish
The Interior
- Starting up front in the cabin we are presented with a very neat interior indeed
- The two front seats are finished in some wonderfully period cloth
- They are both in great condition
- The carpets up front are in beautiful condition
- As is the colour coded dashboard
- The cabin is a great place to sit and watch the miles tick on by
- You and your co-pilot will be able to create many happy memories up here
- Moving through the two front seats we made our way into the business end of the camper, the living space
- You’ll see a large bench seat, that can be used as extra seating as it too has seatbelts
- Folding this bench seat down you then have your main bed section
- There are two smaller bunks for the younger ones amongst us, these run across the tops of the windows
- As the van had a restoration fairly recently, all of the fixtures and fittings inside are nice and modern
- This can be seen with the main side unit in the back
- On top, there is a two-burner gas hob and a sink
- The sink is fed by a clean water system, and the waste drains into a grey waste compartment
- There are two bottles of gas that will come with the van too
- There is quite a bit of storage for all of your camping equipment
- Of course, this van has the added benefit of a pop-up top
- This’ll give you a lot of space to stand and cook
- When you have been out all day and wish to charge your phones then don’t worry it has a separate 12v system that runs off a new leisure battery
- There is also a night heater fitted, this was installed professionally
- Even more importantly, there is a new carbon monoxide monitor fitted
- The interior of this van is in wonderful condition indeed and ready to be used
- All that is left is for you to get in and go
The Exterior
- The shape of a Volkswagen campervan is iconic
- This example is presented in wonderful exterior condition
- As part of the restoration work, the van went in for a full re-spray
- Coming out in this great two-tone paint job it looks amazing from every angle
- The condition of the paint is very good
- The body and painted bumpers show practically no areas of corrosion
- It is said, by the current owner, that the van is totally rust free
- Not only are the big exterior parts presented well, but even the smaller parts are also
- The chrome hubcaps are very reflective
- Even the painted rims are in great condition
- They are also shod with fairly new looking, and matching, Firestone tyres
- When erected, the pop-up top fabric looks in great condition
- There is an aerial that’ll come with the van, but it was never fitted due to the need to drill a hole to fit it
- Wherever your turn up this camper will also turn a few heads because who doesn’t love to see one of these
- This example will look great sitting in your collection
The Mechanics
- As you might be able to work out, this van in is near-perfect mechanical condition
- Thanks to its restoration work it is ready for the next 50 years of its life
- During the work everything, and everything, that needed to be replaced was
- This also relates to the mechanical elements
- We have mentioned a few mechanical parts that have been replaced in the history section
- If you wish to gain an understanding of what has been replaced, then just peruse through the paperwork pictures
- Opening the rear hatch, you are presented with a very clean engine bay
- It too is painted the same colour as the exterior
- The engine itself is very clean
- Looking at the mountain of paperwork you can see the amount of work that has gone into it
- If you go through and add up all of the invoices, you’re looking at just over £10,000
- And this is before you include the labour cost
- Mechanically, this van is in lovely condition and just raring to go on the next adventure
Summary
What we have here is a campervan that is ready to go. You shouldn’t need to do any major work to it to get it out on the road. It should be as simple as turning the key, slipping it into gear, and pulling away.
There is nothing quite like the freedom that a campervan provides you with. If you wish to have a spontaneous trip, then all you need to do is pack some food and get going. The days of paying for expensive hotels will be over for you.
