Highlights
- An earlier example of the great British legend
- Good condition throughout following a recent restoration
- Very low mileage with only 96,000km indicated
The Appeal
One of the longest-running single-generation cars in history, the original Range Rover is built like a military vehicle. Thousands of these are still roaming Britain’s rural areas in their droves, refusing to give up the ghost after often venerable careers.
This example - having been restored in South Africa fairly recently by a Land Rover specialist - is back on its home turf and ready to hit the roads or the fields, no questions asked. This is a great opportunity to take on an earlier Range Rover in an eye-catching livery with a clean bill of health.
The History and Paperwork
- Not yet registered in the UK
- South African paperwork included
- Imported to the UK from South Africa with all relevant documentation
- Restored by Stone Tribe of Cape Town, South Africa
- No manuals or service history provided
The Interior
- Typically spartan, rugged and practical interior as expected of the type
- Plastic dashboard with all-original fittings
- Seat covers show some wear commensurate with age
- Slight sagging to fabric covers
- Yellow carpets are after-market and appear to be in good condition
- Door cards appear to be in excellent condition with no signs of excessive wear
- Dashboard shows some signs of age with wear and staining
- Metal rear of the back bench shows some paint loss and scratching
- Radio is reportedly non-functional, but easily replaced
- All other instruments reportedly working well
- Interior metal appears in very good order throughout
- Boot area is clean with no excessive corrosion and a spare tyre
- Ultimately, a very good example throughout considering the vehicle’s age
The Exterior
- Finished in Bahama Gold - or, to the layman, bright yellow
- Paintwork is largely superb with no major signs of loss
- Small crack in the paintwork on the bonnet lid
- Some signs of chipping on door hinges, though of very little visual consequence
- Slight corrosion to rear window roller rails
- Some slight bubbling to lower doors
- Underside is in very good order with only small spots of corrosion
- Overall, a very good example for the vehicle’s age, rare considering the type’s hard-working lives
The Mechanics
- Mechanically, we’ve been informed of no issues by the vendor
- Engine bay appears very clean and well kept
- Surface corrosion to exhaust manifolds
- Ultimately, this appears to be a vehicle in fine mechanical order
Summary
The Range Rover V8 is a venerable type that’s often found itself placed in industrial or rural settings, where the elements can be harsh. As a result, it’s not often that an example such as this one arises, with good clean paintwork and a recent restoration under its bonnet. If you’ve never got your hands on one of these before, what are you waiting for? You'll rarely see an earlier type in the same nick as this one!
