The Appeal
MG’s hugely successful B is seen by many as the epitome of classic British motoring. It has inspired countless other vehicles and is a very capable car in its own right. First released in 1962, it remains a hugely popular model to this day with a dedicated following.
Here we have what looks to be a very nicely sorted example of an MGB. It will be sure to turn heads wherever it goes.
This example benefits from having been restored in the 1990s and has since been owned by members of one family. It is presented in a fantastic shade of ‘Blaze Red’ and sports a fully retrimmed interior, which is in excellent condition.

Proudly displayed to the right of the wood-rimmed steering wheel is the overdrive switch, a great feature to have on an MGB, making it very comfortable at speed and much more fuel efficient. The gear lever is tastefully adorned with the base of an antler, embossed with an MG badge.
On the dashboard, sporting its full complement of switches and Smiths gauges, is a veneer of fine walnut, which is in beautiful condition, free from chips and delamination.
To the rear, the boot is fully carpeted in red, to match the rest of the interior and retains its full sized spare tyre and jack.
The Exterior
- ‘Blaze Red’ paintwork
- Chrome bumper and wire wheels
- Excellent condition throughout
The vendor informs us that this MG was subject to a full restoration in the 1990s and that it remains in excellent condition throughout.
The car is said to have received attention to its body shell during its restoration, with welding being carried out. And the vendor reports that it remains straight, true and corrosion free.
Wearing eye-catching ‘Blaze Red’ paintwork, this roadster cuts a dashing figure, especially with its stylish chrome bumpers and wire wheels. The chrome looks to be very well presented, with no significant pitting or damage reported.
The soft top hood is very clean and undamaged, and the chrome work it bright, with little pitting, only a couple of minor blemishes and just the front MG badge is missing.
Overall, this car appears to have been well looked after and remains in very presentable condition.
The Mechanics
- Very clean engine bay
- Overdrive gearbox
- Auxiliary cooling fan
Under the bonnet, the engine bay is in great condition. It is clean and tidy and has been treated to a couple of sensible upgrades, such as an electric cooling fan, braided oil and fuel hoses and an oil cooler
It’s easy to see why the MGB remains an ever-popular feature of the classic car scene, with its perfect combination of a lightweight body, rear wheel drive, and spritely performance. And this example is in fine fettle, ready to be unleashed upon the countryside once again.
The vendor reports that the 1.8-litre B-Series engine runs smoothly, with no unwanted noises, leaks or smoke. The twin carburettors feature sizeable air filters, which help the car's performance, and a brake servo adds some extra stopping power.
Summary
Here we have a very clean example of an MGB, with popular features such as chrome bumpers, wire wheels and an overdrive gearbox.
It has clearly been well cared for over the years and has benefitted from being in single family ownership for nearly three decades, so it should provide many years of reliable service to its new owner.
