The Appeal
The MGB has to be one of the most enduring British sports cars of the previous century. Their charm and appeal have allowed them to live long into this century, and probably well beyond as well. They offer a gateway into the world of classic motoring where you can experience the joys of top down driving with a glorious looking car.
This example has been restored during the current ownership and is now presented in lovely condition, just waiting for you to hop in and take it on a drive.
The History and Paperwork
- Rolling off the production line in August of 1971, this Roadster has gone on to live a very happy life
- Within the paperwork bundle, you will find MOT certificates that date as far back as 1984
- There are also a lot of invoices for work completed that days back to 1987
- The earliest invoice from 1987 shows bodywork being completed
- In 1996/97 this little roadster goes in to have a reconditioned engine fitted
- It then winds up with another owner in 2005 and they too complete a fair amount of work to the MGB
- These include front shocks, a stainless steel exhaust system, a clutch kit, and other assorted parts
- It is not until the current owner get his hands on it in 2011 that a full, rotisserie style, bare metal respray
- When they acquired the car, it was a little worse for wear indeed
- A lengthy restoration period was then started
- During the restoration, there were a few new panels fitted, and a re-trimmed interior was also fitted
- There are a few photos from the time of the restoration that show it on the rotisserie, after the sandblasters, with the engine out, and after it has received its coat of rather fetching blue paint
- A lot of the paperwork has been photographed and can be found in the gallery below
- It is now your chance to get into this beautiful classic and start making memories
- The current owner has done all the hard work for you, meaning you can enjoy this roadster from the first day of your ownership
The Interior
- Recently retrimmed
- New hood fitted
- Presented very well
The interior of this MGB Roadster received a lot of attention during its restoration period, the seats were re-trimmed, new carpets were fitted, and a new hood was also fitted. You can now open the door and slip into a marvellously presented classical interior.
If we start by looking at the cream leather seats, we can see that these are presented very well, the contrasting blue piping adds even more depth to the incredible interior. The material used on the seats has been enjoyed since the restoration so you may find a few marks if you look very hard, but there are no nasty rips or tears that would require work.
Much like the seats, the carpets have also been replaced for these new fetching examples we are presented with. The dark blue material matches the exterior colour nicely and also corresponds with the blue piping on the seats. These carpets are of course still in lovely condition for you to enjoy.
We cannot talk about the interior without talking about the pretty wooden steering wheel that sits in front of you. This is a proper steering wheel, unlike modern versions which are more like a distraction. It is from behind this steering wheel that you will create all of your memories with this beautiful little roadster.
The smaller elements of the interior, such as the dash, switch gear, and dials, are all presented very well too.
One of the most important features of the Roadster over the GT is of course the ability to remove the roof. In a matter of seconds, it detaches from its clips and folds neatly onto the rear deck. With the roof down you invite in all of the sounds and smells associated with classic motoring, and boy this car sounds excellent!
The Exterior
- Finished in a beautiful blue
- Original chrome bumper car
- Iconic little sports car
The MG B is one of those iconic cars that will live on forever. The small footprint, with its chrome bumpers and fabric roof, make for a very pretty classic indeed. As you can probably tell, the exterior of this roadster has received a lot of love, from its passionate owner, to get it to the standard it now sits in.
With the help of some photos from the restoration, we can see that this example has been sandblasted back to a bare shell and taken from there. Some new panels were then sourced to replace the rotten parts, when these had been mated snuggly to the body it was taken away to be primed and after the current owner had tested almost every MG colour they could, they found this blue and doesn’t it just look stunning. Today the paint still looks great, with no nasty or worrying areas of bubbling that would indicate rust.
A must for any MG B whether it be a Roadster or GT is of course the chrome bumpers. Importantly this car has always been a chrome bumper, not one that has been converted later on in life. The bumpers fitted to this B are in amazing condition, with little to no pitting, incredibly shiny, and very sexy indeed. There are even more chrome elements across the exterior, unsurprisingly these are also in great condition.
Overall, the exterior of this MGB is in amazing condition and it will look beautiful out on the road or sitting pride of place within your collection.
The Mechanics
- Reconditioned engine fitted
- Runs and drives very well
- Sounds incredible
Mechanically, this MGB is in amazing condition. It fires up on the button and bellows its 1.8l soundtrack out of a full stainless steel exhaust system. The first time you start this car up, it may take you by surprise.
During the photoshoot, the car was required to manoeuvre about the location a few times, and it did it without complaining at all, if anything it wanted you to get in and take it for a proper blast. The gearbox appeared to be working perfectly too, slipping in and out of its gears nicely. In addition to the ‘on the day’ reliability, the current owner has taken this out on many trips throughout their 10 year ownership.
You can deduct from the paperwork folder that this car has been looked after properly since 1987, and with its most recent restoration work it runs amazingly well. It should be as simple as driving this car away on the day of collection.
Summary
Isn’t this MG B Roadster a perfect little classic sports car, its restoration and mechanical condition further add to the appeal. You will be able to create many happy memories behind the wheel of this little sports car.
If you miss out on this one you will kick yourself, it could be one of the nicest examples out there today.
