THE APPEAL
The Jaguar E-Type is a car that needs no introduction, having been voted as both the most beautiful car of all-time, as well as one of the most important.
This one is one of the later examples – a 2+2 Coupé in traditional British Racing Green, and one of the first to be equipped with Jaguar’s wonderful 5.3-litre V12 engine.
It’s been with its current owner for 20 years and has covered just 1,390 miles since a comprehensive engine rebuild, it has just this year had over £10,000 spent and very many thousands of pounds spent in recent times by the present owner on upgrades and improvements, all bills on file.
THE HISTORY AND PAPERWORK
- Three previous keepers two of which were the previous owner.
- Owned since 2002
- Huge history file across two folders
- Previously owned by Rolls-Royce specialist who restored and painted it
- Photographic record of rebuild
- Masses of bills and invoices
- Receipts back to the 1990s
THE INTERIOR
- Retrimmed in cream leather with green piping
- Period radio-cassette
- Wood-rimmed wheel
- Carpets replaced by previous owner
- Clean and tidy overall
Inside, the E-Type is in good overall condition with cream leather seats piped in green, and matching green carpets. The cabin was retrimmed prior to the owner buying the car in 2002, but it has held up very well indeed and will need nothing other than maybe some light cleaning to the leather to bring it back to A1 condition.
It has a period radio-cassette player fitted and all of the dials and controls work as they ought to, while the original tool kit and jack are in the boot.
THE EXTERIOR
- Repainted in early 2000s by Rolls-Royce sprayer
- Recent extensive underside repairs
- Knock-on wire wheels including spare wire wheel
- Some of the chrome will need repair
Recently this year, the Jaguar has received over £10,000-worth of repair work, a lot of which was to the underside of the car, boot floor and rear inner arches. The work was carried out by Stratton Motor Company in Norfolk, a renowned specialist, and has been finished to an excellent standard.
The upper body was restored in the late 1990s and early 2000s by a former Rolls-Royce bodywork specialist and has stood up well to the past two decades with no major issues. The paint is good other than a few microblisters in the roof and some very minor marls and chips.
Some of the chrome will ned repair or replacement, though, with the front and rear bumpers both being extensively pitted and the rear four-branch exhaust outlet also past its best. Get this done and it’ll take the E-Type up to the next level – it’s a good car and it deserves it.

Jaguar’s mighty V12 is an impressive engine and this one is a great example, having been rebuilt 20 years ago but having covered just 1,390 miles since, the current owner using the car only occasionally during the summer months.
He has just had the car comprehensively serviced ready for sale and has also had all of the old-fashioned fuel lines removed and replaced by new hardened items, meaning the E-Type can run safely on the latest E10 fuel.
SUMMARY
Enzo Ferrari's high opinion of the E-Type is firmly entrenched in automotive folklore and it's fair to say that with its long flowing bonnet and voluptuous curves, the E-Type is amongst the most beautiful cars ever made.
This is a great opportunity for someone to take a good V12 E-Type and bring it up to a new level – it’s a sound, solid and very decent car that is already extremely presentable, but with some minor cosmetics could be brought up to excellent condition. It’s a superb investment opportunity, or alternatively an E-Type that you can use, safe in the knowledge it’s solid and mechanically sorted but not cosmetically perfect.
