The Appeal

Over the decades, many things have changed in the world of cars, but one of the things that hasn’t changed is Porsche’s ability to make absolutely superb sports cars.

And, of course, when you think of Porsche, there’s one model that springs immediately to mind: the much-lauded 911.
Launched in 1964, it has gone through countless iterations and model variations, but that gorgeous, sloping coupé styling and rear-engined drivetrain have remained as the hallmark of the breed.
This is a 911 T, and is presented in exceptional condition having undergone a “ground up” restoration and bare-metal respray to return it, as much as possible, to its original condition.

Of the early 911s, this is one of the best to have - it’s a ‘C Series’, which means it gets the bigger 2.2-litre engine and a longer wheelbase for more predictable handling.

If you love driving and are looking for an iconic sports car to enjoy, one that’s sure to increase in value if cared for, you cannot afford to let this one pass you by…

The History and Paperwork

  • Matching numbers car
  • Porsche certified history
  • Delivered to Washington, USA in December 1969
  • First registered in January 1970
  • Current owners first purchased the car in 2011 as a US import
  • Sold in 2013 to a new owner who restored the vehicle
  • Restoration carried out by Saica Classics, Valencia
  • Previous owner re-purchased the car in 2021

The Interior

  • Recent new ‘Pepita design’ seats
  • New seat belts front and rear
  • New official Porsche gear lever
  • New carpets throughout
The first thing you notice in the interior is the striking ‘Pepita’ design seats.

Recently re-upholstered, this classic design consists of black vinyl with black-and-white “hound’s tooth” style fabric inserts. They look absolutely brilliant and are period correct for the car.
Along with the new upholstery, the owner has had new seat belts fitted front and back, making this a genuinely useful 2+2. At the same time, the carpets were renewed as well.
We have to applaud the fact that, despite having been restored, as much originality has been kept as possible, with parts being renewed where necessary.

So, for instance, the gear lever has been replaced with a new genuine Porsche item, and the American odometer (which read in miles) has been replaced with a restored Porsche Euro part to read in kilometres.
The dashboard itself looks to be in excellent condition, with no wear or damage evident. That classic 911 steering wheel and textured dash fascia really do look brilliant. And, as a precaution, a fire extinguisher has been fitted in the passenger footwell.
Overall, we have to say that the quality of the cabin appears to be excellent.

The Exterior

  • Original specification Burgundy (2424) paintwork
  • Bare metal / body off respray
  • Complete chassis renovation
  • Refurbished Fuchs wheels with Pirelli tyres
We’re assured by the owner that, previous to them repurchasing the vehicle in 2021, it underwent a bare-metal restoration by Saica Classics of Valencia, one of the premier restoration workshops in Spain.
As well as fixing any bodywork issues, the shell was completely resprayed in its original Burgundy colour, and we’re informed that the chassis was comprehensively renovated.

To really finish the car off, a set of original Fuchs wheels were refurbished and fitted, along with making sure all the external trim, badges and brightwork were in top condition.

The results speak for themselves and the car really does look stunning.

The Mechanics

  • 2,195cc flat-six, air-cooled
  • 5-speed manual transmission
  • Upgraded coil system
  • Total engine rebuild
  • New brakes and suspension
  • Full service (2021)
  • New front anti-roll bar
  • New battery
When the car was first imported from the US, it was fitted with a 2.4-litre engine, but also came with the original matching numbers 2.2-litre.

The owner tells us that, during the restoration process, the original engine was completely rebuilt and refitted and that new brakes were also fitted alongside new suspension, restoring the car to its showroom specification.
Some upgrades have been made, including replacing the original coil system with a modern MSD Classic Racing electronic coil system, which is much more reliable. An anti-roll bar has also recently been added to the front suspension set-up.
With so much work having been carried out by a reputable vehicle restoration company, any new owner can have real confidence in the quality of this gorgeous sports car.

Summary

If you love cars, and you’re on Car & Classic so we’re going to assume you do, then a classic 911 is probably very high on your “one day” list. And it’s no surprise that would be the case.

They’re compellingly beautiful cars, with sublime handling and an evocative soundtrack from that flat-six air-cooled power plant.
Prime examples are getting thin on the ground as enthusiasts and collectors snap them up, and this is one of the best we’ve seen for a while, so we don’t expect it to hang around for long.

That luscious Burgundy finish with lashings of chrome over the traditional ‘Pepita’ interior design is just perfect, And the fact that the owner tells us the car has been comprehensively restored in every way just makes it even more tempting.
There’s no such thing as the perfect car, but if there was, well, this may just be it…
