THE APPEAL

Classic British Motoring at its best! This delightful MGB Roadster looks absolutely stunning in the Iconic ‘Tartan Red’ finish. Contrasting well with the immaculate renewed black interior. A rare opportunity to own a classic restored to a high standard.
This roadster was manufactured in 1969 when cars were built to last. This desirable example just requires minimal detailing work to finish and be ready to be enjoyed for many years to come

THE HISTORY AND PAPERWORK

The car was restored by an elderly MGB enthusiast engineer over the past three years. All running gear was renewed or rebuilt and the bodywork was prepared and painted to a high standard. Unfortunately, illness prevented the final commissioning and detailing being completed. The current owner purchased the car 3 months ago with the intention of finishing the project.

Nearly all the work has been completed on the car, however some tidying of the new wiring loom, carburettor balancing, and paintwork detailing would fulfil the potential of this nicely restored MGB. The present owner has had a change of circumstances and has not had the time to complete these jobs and enjoy the car. The V5 is present and correct.

The car is MOT’d until 28th April 2023 and has a history of MOT certificates available. There are many receipts showing servicing and maintenance work carried out on the car.

THE INTERIOR

The Interior looks immaculate with new carpets throughout, also re upholstered seats with white piping, fold down roof and cover, re upholstered door cards. The original dashboard is in good order with all gauge glasses clear. The cabin is finished off with a beautiful wood rimed steering wheel.

THE EXTERIOR

First impressions are that this is a head turner! The Iconic ‘Tartan Red’ has a deep shine and looks good but would be further improved with polishing. There are some light scratch marks on the windscreen from sweep of the wipers and could probably be removed.

The MK2 MGB is the desirable year with the heavier gauge metal used for this rust-free body shell. The soft top hood and cover are also new. The wire wheels have been restored and are fitted with new tyres. All bright work has been restored or replaced. Receipts show that the bumpers have been replaced with high-quality stainless-steel items and not the cheaper alternative. The quaterlite window frames have some light marks from corrosion.

THE MECHANICS

The engine and engine bay are very clean as can be seen from the photographs. The engine and gearbox have been re-built. Furthermore, the engine has been upgraded with a modified head to run on unleaded petrol. All the running gear and components have been restored or replaced.

A new stainless steel exhaust system has been fitted throughout, new tyres all round, new alternator, fuel tank and pump, also a new 12-volt battery fitted and a new wiring loom. The brakes are all renewed and effective – MOT passed Apr 22 but they could benefit from some adjustment.

THE SUMMARY

This is an opportunity to purchase and add value to a rust-free example of one of the most desirable models of the MGB marque – 1969 roadster with overdrive. It has had all the major work done with all parts replaced or reconditioned with just minor work required to finish. Driving this car on the open road with the roof down, makes this a superb motoring choice. This sought after 1969 roadster looks great all round and exudes the charm of a traditional British open-topped sports car.
