THE BACKGROUND

The Stanbury TT was a hand built custom kit car by a husband and wife team David and Jan Quick. It all started in 1982 when David acquired a Triumph 2 seater and it failed its MOT.
Upon removing the body to inspect the rot that had failed the MOT, David found it was actually a very simply Triumph Herald chassis underneath and he had a lightbulb moment. Why not rebuild it himself with his own tweaks, which he did, and then he got it through all of the necessary car regulations to be registered on the road.
The duo went on to make a second car and improved the design learning from car number 1. They then used car number 2 for all of the designs and blue prints to make 10 more cars. They also used the designs from number 2 to create flat pack kits for others to buy and build their own.
The car you see here today, is that number 2 car!

THE HISTORY

This particular car was stashed away in a barn and the owner decided to sell his collection upon which the current owner purchased it.
It is MOT and TAX exempt being a 1968 Triumph Herald base but it last had an MOT in 2017 (pictured) and has not covered many miles since.

Present is a V5 the last MOT and a few documents explaining the history behind the Stanbury cars.

THE INTERIOR

The interior is sparse but purposeful, it’s a combination of wood and leather. Two of the dials don’t seem to be connected currently. There is no roof on this model, what you see is what you get.

THE EXTERIOR

The majority of the exterior is polished aluminium, there are some watermarks on the metal itself but obviously no corrosion. The bonnet opens in two half's and is held down by leather straps.
The wheels have a few corrosion marks but no damage, the tyres are all healthy. There is a black roll bar behind the seats.

THE MECHANICS

The 1300cc Triumph lump is throaty and responsive, its running twin carbs and a Kent performance cam. The engine bay is honest and there is no sign of any leaks , it's nice and dry.
The wiring seems to have had some work done or replaced with new fairly recently.

THE APPEAL

Lightweight two seaters like this are often the weapon of choice for hillclimb or off road trials enthusiasts, this vehicle would suit either of those lifestyles.
Being number 2 from a very limited run (12) of hand crafted vehicles makes this particular car very rare indeed but because it is based on a Triumph Herald parts there are still parts around.
This car is all about the driving , you would need to be someone who is willing to man handle this little pocket rocket around the twisties and if you do, you’ll be handsomely rewarded in Smiles per gallon. Fun is the name of the game here.
