THE APPEAL

The Citroën H-Van was for many years one of the true symbols of France, as well as a brilliant compact van – its low floor, tall roof and corrugated sides making it an impressively useful vehicle.
In more recent times, the H-Van, or HY, has undergone something of a revolution, with the vans proving extremely popular at festivals, events and anywhere requiring outdoor catering. The HY is the food truck of choice, and this one is absolutely spot-on – ready to earn a living, fully equipped it needs little other than branding and using.

THE HISTORY AND PAPERWORK

 • Imported from France
 • UK registered
 • Fully road legal
The HY began life in the South of France and came to the UK fairly recently – it’s now UK-registered and road legal. It was overhauled by well-known H-Van specialist on its arrival in the UK.
It is being sold as the vendor acquired it for his daughter, but as she is small and quite young it is just too much for her to handle. So sadly they will have to let it go.

THE INTERIOR

 • Basic but functional cabin
 • Extremely well equipped kitchen
 • Full head height
 • 240v electrics with commercial coffee machine
It’s the back end of the H-Van that’s of most interest here, as that’s where its earning potential lies.
This HY is full head height, meaning it can be used without having to stoop down whilst preparing or serving food or drinks, and is lined with walnut-effect panelling.
It has the following equipment on-board:
 • Commercial 2 group Rancilio coffee machine with new Porta Filters and waste grounds bin knock box.
 • Coffee Grinder
 • Glass fronted Fridge
 • Glass fronted Hot Cabinet
 • Hot Grill (electric)
 • Microwave oven
 • Hot and Coldwater taps with stainless steel double sinks
 • Hot Water Dispenser (for tea etc)
 • Stainless Steel worktop
 • LED lighting
 • 230/240 V electrical distribution sockets
 • Electrical fuse panel
 • External mains connection
 • External generator connection
 • Two opening serving hatches
 • A rear door that opens completely
 • Side door with water storage area.

THE EXTERIOR

 • Repainted in black
 • Wooden side panels
 • Recent tyres all-round
The body condition is good overall and the van looks really smart in black, with a high quality paint job and a premium appearance thanks to the walnut panelling.
It has been thoroughly checked and overhauled where needed by an H-Van specialist and is sold with no known bodywork problems. The wheels are in good order and are equipped with recent Hankook tyres all-round.
It will require a wheel nut replacing and a new (NOS) Stud and Nut are supplied with the van.

THE MECHANICS

 • 2.0-litre petrol
 • Three-speed manual
 • Asbestos-free
 • New clutch and brake overhaul
The H-Van uses the four-cylinder OHV engine as found in the DS and Light 15 and it’s a strong and reliable powerplant renowned for its longevity.
The engine starts and runs well and has no known issues. A new clutch has been fitted and the brakes have been overhauled. All of the parts fitted are asbestos-free meaning the vehicle can be used for indoor trading where legal requirements demand, as well as allowing it to be eligible for export to Australia.

SUMMARY

This is a great opportunity to acquire not only one of the best all-time classic vehicles ever made, but also a wonderful business opportunity. With your own branding and personal touches it’s ready for use and contains thousands of pounds worth of commercial catering equipment that you’d need to source elsewhere otherwise.
It’s a fabulous thing and one that should also pay for itself in the fullness of time, not least because it’s one of the smartest HY food trucks we’ve seen.
Somehow you just know you’re going to get a good cup of coffee when you get it from a van like this!
