Highlights
• A delightful little Healey Sprite in excellent overall condition throughout underscored by its new, advisory free MOT
• Presents very well in recently refreshed Old English White and wire wheels with central, twin eared spinners
• A beautifully trimmed interior and new hood. This Sprite is all ready for the summer.
The Appeal
The Austin Healey Sprite represents the heyday of affordable British sports cars based on a simple but effective formula. A diminutive size, soft top and a revvy, eager engine.
This car is a MkIV car so enjoys the same, if slightly detuned, iconic 1275cc A series engine as found in the original Mini Cooper S.
With summer just around the corner this is very much a car of the moment and is in great order and ready for those long summer drives in the country.
The History and Paperwork
• A MKIV Austin Healey Sprite originally registered in 1968
• Complete with a good level of provenance providing paperwork
• This includes the current V5 and a number of hard copy MOTs
• Numerous invoices detailing maintenance work undertaken
• These include a recent invoice for a new hood which is now fitted
The Interior
• A very original looking interior in great, overall condition
• The seats are vinyl covered in a pleated black with white piping
• Door cards and dash elements are also dressed in black vinyl
• The carpet set is in a black wool and appears to be in great condition too
• A sporty, alloy three spoke steering wheel with a wooden rim is fitted
The Sprite’s interior is very much “of the period” and ideal for a sporty little classic of this nature. It is comfortable, surprisingly roomy, and practical in equal measure. Everything is in great condition too, blending condition and originality perfectly in our opinion.
The Exterior
• Bright and lustrous looking Old English White paintwork. The subject of a recent, freshen-up respray.
• Fitted with a new vinyl hood set and complete with a new tonneau cover
• Complete with 13-inch wire wheels with chromed twin eared spinners
• White wall 145/80 R13 tyres complete the look
• A good looking and useful chrome luggage rack adorns the boot lid
• The owner reports some light, age related patina to the chrome bumpers
Appearing to have enjoyed a professional respray in its recent history, this Sprite is a real head turner. The colour is evocative of the period and the condition is very good indeed with all bodywork appearing straight and panel gaps being tight and true.
The Mechanics
• This MKIV car is fitted with the respected 1275cc A series engine – considered the sweet-spot for the Sprite
• Clearly well cared for with a K&N induction kit fitted for enhanced performance
• The owner reports that all mechanical systems are in great working order and the car runs very well
• Even the underside of this car presents well having been undersealed for protection
The mechanical condition of the Sprite is very good indeed. Despite its small engine, this is a very light car by today’s standards, so these cars deliver a very spritely driving dynamic – hence the name! The mechanicals of the Healey Sprite are shared across a range of BMC cars from the period making spares availability very good too.
Summary
A great looking Austin Healey Sprint in an ideal period colourway. Add in those delightful wire wheels, the white walls, luggage rack and new hood and tonneau and you will see why this car is such a head turner.
Always designed and built as a simple but enjoyable sports car, these cars are cheap to insure and run and still provide a cracking summer driving experience. It is no surprise that prices are on the rise so bid now to avoid disappointment.
