1967 Triumph TR6

Highlights

  • Excellent overall condition
  • Detailed history
  • Simple old-school biking at its best

The Appeal

The Triumph TR6 is yet another British vertical twin bike that existed in various forms.
This particular 1967 example was originally a part of the police force but was later sold to a private owner in 1988 and has been with the same family since.
Since being acquired by the family, several jobs were undertaken such as respraying the body and frame. During its life in private ownership, the bike has clearly been very well cared for presenting itself beautifully. The paint still shows off the bikes styling while small details carry some patina celebrating the model’s life.
As a Triumph from the period, it’s a delightfully stripped back riding experience that the current vendor is keen to point out.

The Condition

  • Several parts repainted in 1988
  • Excellent overall condition
  • Slight patina in places

Simply walking up to this 1967 Triumph TR6P is surely a wonderous experience as it sits proudly in the sunlight. From the police colours it would have originally worn, the bike was repainted in 1988 in this gorgeous pale blue colour while the frame contrasts perfectly in black.
This paint job has been preserved excellently throughout the years. A few specks and spots of patina can be found on parts of the bike, though these are for the most part limited to the chrome fixtures. The Triumph badges on either side of the fuel tank in particular are perfectly decorated in it.
Elsewhere, the seat has seemingly very rarely been used presenting itself in very good condition while the handlebars and instruments show lots of character.
Atop the fuel reservoir is a black tank top bag and holder while a box of spare parts, namely the original curved front numberplate, are included in the sale.
The owner informs us that the Avon tyres were new in 2017, though they are said to not have done very many miles.

The Mechanics

  • Engine probably replaced by police
  • Rides just as it should

Being a non-matching numbers example, the vendor guesses at the engine being swapped by the police during the bike’s time in the force. However, that is far from an issue as the 650cc vertical twin engine currently powering this TR6P is seemingly running without issue.
In fact, with around 40 horsepower from new, the police nicknamed this nifty bike SAINT, or Stop Anything In No Time. With plenty of poke then, it should make for an excellent toy on twisty country roads.
There don’t appear to be any problems with how the bike brakes or puts the power down while the engine looks very good sat regally within the frame.

Summary

Despite originally being put through its paces with the police, this 1967 TR6P has been sympathetically maintained since retirement. Today, it looks brilliant in its pale blue frock with patina subtly decorating parts of the finer details.
Good enough for a single family to hold on to for nearly 35 years, this bike is surely an excellent opportunity to experience the joys of a classic Triumph from what many consider the brand’s golden era.
