1967 Triumph TR 250 LHD

Highlights

  • Comprehensive restoration
  • Stunning condition, convertible
  • LHD on British plates

The Background

The Triumph TR is a popular range of two seater sports cars built between 1953 and 1981 by the Triumph Motor Company in the United Kingdom. Changes from the TR2 to the TR6 were mostly evolutionary, with a change from a live axle to independent rear suspension in 1965 and a change from a four-cylinder engine to a six-cylinder engine in 1967.
The TR went on until the final model, TR7, which even came with a V8!

The History

This particular TR250 was built and completed on 10th October 1967 originally supplied in Primrose with wire wheels, it was then exported to Los Angeles, California.
The car's documented history starts from 1971 when it was owned by Robert Gordon in California, there are extensive receipts for work and services undertaken during this period.
In 1977 Robert had the engine overhauled by Performance Machines in California, which carried a 12 month guarantee.
In 1986 we believe it was acquired by Phil Evans in California who kept the car until 1993 when it was purchased by Mick Jarvis again in California.
In 1994 it was sold again to David Brooks in California who carried out an extensive restoration including a respray in 2005. It was subsequently sold to British Sports Cars in California.
In 2006 it was sold by auction and was then exported to Vancouver in Canada and bought by a company there.
In 2014 the car was exported to the UK and bought by John Loder in Scotland.
John kept the car for 4 years and then sold it to David Wilson in England, who carried out another restoration, including new walnut dashboard and he brought the car to concours condition, so much so It finished 2nd in a Concours Competition in Spain during Davids time there.
The car was kept by David in Spain for much of the time he owned it and it was then, due to ill health, reluctantly sold in 2021, when it was bought by the current owner in England.
The car currently remains in Spain but can be shipped back to the UK.

The Paperwork

The car comes with a wealth of paperwork, receipts and invoices to back up his travelled history.

The Interior

The interior is finished in black leather with black rubber floor mats. There is stainless steering wheel with wood trim fitted which looks the part and as previously mentioned the dash has been restored.
The roof has a tonneau cover and also a rain cover and the roof folds as expected.
It’s a lovely place to sit and watch the world go by and shows minimal wear due the great care and attention of its past owners.

The Exterior

The exterior of the vehicle is in stunning condition, the deep ruby paint has an excellent lustre and it's should come as no surprise that we're looking at a previous competition winner given its condition.
The chromework is excellent and the mini light style wheels really set it off, the tyres have healthy tread.
It really does turn heads and looks stunning.

The Mechanics

Mechanically the car also had the same amount of time and care lavished upon by its enthusiast owners and as a result it is in fine working condition.
It drives well with no awkward noises, clunks, smells or leaks.
It really is a pleasure if you show it a b road.

The Appeal

The Triumph TR250 was a well thought of two seater British sports car in its day. Nimble handling , a few engine options and brutish good looks stood it in good stead against most of its rivals in the same price bracket.
The TR badge was so popular in fact they went on for several generations and even ended up throwing a V8 in the tiny 2 seater sports car.
This particular example is well travelled, in fact it has more stamps in its passport than Judith Chalmers but don’t for one minute let that put you off. If anything, it’s a sign of just how much each of its owners have loved this car that they were prepared to ship it to their country to be able to enjoy it.
The cars had several restorations over the years and looks all the better for it, you wont find many in this condition, its lovely.
If you are in the market for a classic Triumph then this one is sure to be worth a closer look!
