THE APPEAL

This fantastic 1967 Triton Thunderbird has had just two previous keepers, one of which is responsible for restoring the bike over two years to this exceptional standard in 2017. During the restoration, the Triton was fully stripped back and had the parts refurbished or replaced to ensure everything was as it should be.
Since the restoration, the bike has covered just 163 miles on the freshly rebuilt engine, leaving an excellent opportunity for the new keeper to enjoy the bike as if they had just had it fresh out of restoration.

THE HISTORY AND PAPERWORK

 • Registered 3rd January 1967
 • V5 present with two previous keepers showing
 • Original Registration Book
 • Invoices for some parts purchased whilst in the seller's ownership
The seller purchased the Triton from a professional classic motorcycle restorer in Hull, which is where the bike looks to have spent all of its life. Having owned the Triton for five years, the seller has never ridden it too far, just using it for local shows and odd rides out in the summer.
Although he loves the bike, it’s more of an age thing, making it uncomfortable for him to ride, which has brought on the decision to part with it.

THE EXTERIOR

 • Well executed restoration
 • Original wheels
 • Original fuel tank
 • Many new or refurbished parts
The Triton has been stripped back to the frame, which has then been repainted in what is reported to be the red colour used on Scania lorries, and the same colour was chosen for the swingarm, mudguards, primary chain cover and chain guard.
Starting at the front of the bike, and as mentioned, the mudguard has been colour-coded to the frame, and the polished forks with new springs are in good order. These lead up through the new headstock to new clip-ons with new leavers and grips fitted. The headlight is in excellent condition and has an ammeter gauge built-in to keep the charging level in check. The instruments were replaced at the time of the restoration, and the odometer shows just 163 miles covered since then. The tachometer is made by Smiths and is electronically controlled.
The classic has retained the original fuel tank, which is polished aluminium finished off with Triton Thunderbird decals and mounted underneath is a hand pump for the tyres should you need it. Just behind is the newly trimmed seat with the cutout to allow easy filling of the oil tank. The wheels are the original aluminium ones, which have been polished and are in excellent order with Avon tyres fitted. These have covered just the 163 miles since being finished.

THE MECHANICS

 • Rebuilt Triumph 650cc engine
 • New exhausts
 • Electronic ignition
The previous owner had the engine rebuilt, which, as already mentioned, has covered very few miles. Although it has had little use, the seller has maintained the bike, purely down to his engineering background and love of classic bikes. The motorcycle kicks up as it should with the exhausts giving a sporty note without being too loud. The seller reports it's a pleasure to ride, and although being quite a big bike, it is relatively easy to manoeuvre.
The suspension has been refurbished, with any necessary parts replaced as needed, and other than that, parts have been refurbished. In addition, the brakes have been given an entire overhaul, again replacing any worn parts along the way. The bike is reported to go through the 4-speed gearbox as it should, and it comes to a halt as well as you would expect.

SUMMARY

Restored in 2017, the 1967 Triton Thunderbird 650cc has been enjoyed by the seller for the past five years. Used for shows and the occasional ride out on a summer's afternoon, the bike wants for nothing. Everything has been taken care of, leaving just the tiny matter of polishing and enjoying it to its full potential.
