1967 Sunbeam Alpine Series V

Highlights

∙Well Looked after with regular servicing
∙Tax and MOT Exempt
∙Original paint
∙Jamaican import

The Background

Starting production in 1959 and ending in 1968 the Sunbeam Alpine Series went through five design iterations in its short production life, with little improvements being made on each design change. The Series 5 benefitted from the larger 1725cc Engine which produced 92hp and could propel it to 100 mph. The Sunbeam Alpines most famous moment came in 1962 when Sean Connery debuted the now well-known idea of James Bond’s Car in the film version of Ian Fleming's Dr. No.

Like the Bond car this Series 5 started its life out in Kingston Jamaica before making the long journey back to the UK in 2003.

The History

This Sunbeam has had more of a journey than most. It started its life out in Kingston, Jamaica before being imported into the UK in 2003 (there are import papers to support this).

On arrival it was picked up by the previous owner, who kept a detailed history of the car's mechanical bills. The current owner acquired the car in around 2014 where it has spent its new life in North West London.

The previous and current owner have both kept up with the Sunbeam's servicing and repair needs, looking after this car well.

The Paperwork

With this example imported from Jamaica in 2003 there is only UK documentation from then onwards.

It comes with the full import documents and the V5. Other paperwork includes receipts of all major and minor works done by the current and the previous owner. Some of these receipts include a new clutch and master brake cylinder in 2020.
The present owner has fitted a new electric fuel pump.

The Interior

The interior in this example is starting to show its age a little bit, with a small mark on the driver's seat and other little marks.

The dials on the dash are in working order and not so long ago the vehicle was fitted with more modern seat belts to bring some of the safety features in the interior up to 21st century standards.

The quirkiest feature of the interior is the pea green carpet, one thing that is sure to turn heads. When not in use the interior is protected by a fitted tonneau cover making sure that no water gets in.

The Exterior

The exterior of the car is believed to be still finished in the original paint that it left the factory in, however there is no confirmation of this.

With the car spending the first part of its life in Jamaica you can imagine that issues such as corrosion haven’t quite affected this car as much as an example that has spent all its life in the UK. There are a few marks on the rear fin but that is about it for the paint.

The car still has its original soft top hood, but due to its age it could do with some attention. The outside of the top is in okay conditions with only a couple of tears; however, the inside of the top is where this attention is mostly needed.

The top goes up and slots in as you expect and within the original owner's Sunbeam handbook, supplied with the car, you will find instructions on how to erect the roof.

The Mechanics

Mechanically this car has been looked after well, with work being completed when needed.

This work includes things like the new clutch, brake master cylinder and new front seatbelts. It has also benefited from regular servicing. Due to the age of the car, it is now tax and MOT exempt.

The current owner and main mechanic on the car are more than happy to be contacted to talk about the works completed on the car and how it runs.

The Appeal

The Sunbeam Alpine is a good looking classic English sports car that’ll never fail to turn a head or two, this one is showing its age a little bit but there are areas of the car that make it a good car.

It is an honest example with only a couple of downfalls here and there, but you can be put at ease with the fact that the previous owners of the car have always kept up to date with items that needed to be replaced to make it as safe and easy to drive as possible.

With the car being mostly original, even down to the tools in the boot, it is a great example to keep on the UK roads for years to come.

With this car being now eligible for tax and MOT exemption it makes it even more desirable.
