1967 MGC Roadster

Highlights

・Low mileage
・90% complete restoration project
・All parts present

The Background

The MGC was a 2,912 cc, straight-six version of the MGB sold from 1967 and produced until August 1969 with some sales running on into 1970.
Like the MGB, it was available as a coupé (GT) and roadster. An overdrive gearbox or three-speed automatic gearbox were available as options. The car was capable of 120 mph (193 km/h) and a 0–60 mph time of 10.0 seconds.

The History

Supplied with its original plate 797GRH, this desirably early MGC was supplied new in December 1967 to Apple Yard in Leeds. It is rare to find a 67 on the market and more importantly, lets not forget that this was the first year of manufacture!
The current owner took possession of the vehicle in 2004 and drove it as a commuter for 3 years or so. A change of job saw him decide to take it off the road and give it a restoration.
The car was stripped and painted and then it sat for some years on axle stands in his lock up.
Covid has finally given him some time to crack on with the project and a lot of parts have been refurbished or new replacements purchased however he has once again not able to afford the time to finish it so it is offered for sale as a 90% complete project with a large number of parts to finish the car included in the sale.
These include but are not necessarily limited to,
New window glass
Had new handles
New interior trim panels
New aluminium sump
All
New interior trim
Carpets new
Brand new exterior body trim
Spare heater box

The Paperwork

There is a large folder of history with this vehicle comprising of invoices , MOTs and tax discs. The work on this car over the years has been very well documented and pretty much every invoice kept, a number of which have been pictured.
The V5 is present.

The Interior

The seats are in fantastic condition and lots of the interior parts are new including the carpets. There are still some finishing touches like the door cards to fit to finish it off but it will be a lovely place to be when finished. The remaining parts are supplied with the vehicle.
The car has two batteries hidden behind the seats in purpose built cubby holes.

The Exterior

The exterior of the car was repainted in 1999 and then again circa 2005. The car then sat for a number of years so the paint hasn’t really seen the road. There are a few storage marks and blemishes so for it to be concourse it would need a respray but as you can see from the images its more than presentable as is.
Underneath the car is very clean and a lot of time has been spent in this area as the photos show.
The car is current rolling on wire wheels that do have some corrosion and would benefit from a refurb. There are a number of trim parts missing currently, they are present but will need fitting by the new owner.
The convertible hood was brand new some years ago and has hardly seen the light of day since so is in great condition.

The Mechanics

The car starts and runs and sounds fantastic through the throaty exhaust that’s currently fitted. The car drives well and stops as it should. Some of the bushes may need attention/replacement just from perishing whilst the car has been sitting off the road for some while.
Please Note: As the car is not currently on the road officially and requires finishing, this listing is classed as a project/recommission and as such the car will need to be trailered away.

The Appeal

The MGC was the slightly bigger brother of the MGB and to be honest it wasn’t quite as popular at the time which means it's now a bit rarer.
Not everyone is confident at a huge restoration project so to strip a whole car down and rebuild it can feel daunting. This recommission project then is a happy medium and a great opportunity for someone who wants to get busy with the spanners but doesn’t want the hassle of the dirty jobs.
The car runs, drives, starts ,stops and just few of the finishing touches are required to make this a respectable classic.
British two seater sports car in red with a 3 litre straight six engine and a convertible roof, sounds good doesn't it…
